Hello,

I recently discovered this forum while reviewing the "newest unique referrers" stats on our own site. I always like to check out new sites that link back to us... unfortunately what I found when I got here was someone spamming your forum with, for some reason, a link to our site.

I would like to go on the record in saying that we do not know this person, nor did we have any knowledge of their actions. And most certainly, we do not approve... we don't need or want this sort of publicity.

I feel I should apologize, as it was our name and site that were used, though we had nothing to do with it. Frankly, I'm stymied as to what they could possibly have had to gain.

On a more positive note, this looks to be an excellent forum. Web design is a very small part of what we do here, but I've put together a bit of a profile so I can check back in the next time I hit a coding wall

OK no worries. We do get a lot of spammers here, but thankfully not as much as some larger forums. I'm sure we won't hold it against you

Welcome to the forums by the way. Hope we can help you if you need it, and you can help others in return

You probably made an enemy. I worked with someone who would read forums, and when someone wrote something he didn't like, he'd grab their email and sign them up for all kinds of digital newsletters.

It's juvenile, but people do dumb stuff like that. Thanks for setting the record straight.

I contacted SageMedia directly and the user had already been banned for flaming and spaming and most of the posts had been deleted. I think my fellow mods are fabulous that they took care of this issue even before it was an issue

Unfortunately it's a popular ploy with the likes of the prolific "3 way" link exchangers.

List a few sites that they have no control over as bait to get links from other sites, and then oddly enough the promised return link never materialises and the scammer has lots of excuses ready as to why it hasn't happened.

Spamming is posting irrelevant or unwanted material on a forum or through some other medium like email. Usually to advertise some service or product (viagra, ***** enlargment) or in some cases to get page rank from signature links.
