OK guys, interesting question here, will be cool to see everybodys responses to this. Do you think that entrepreneurs are born to take calculated risks and start a growth business or can they be moulded therefore learning from their mistakes?

Give your answer, and why you think this!

I dunno. Kind of too narrow. Risk taking has genetic and environmental contributors that can help predict a person's tolerance for it. Starting a business is a much more pinned down phenomenon. That has as much to do with barriers to entry to the market in your locality as it does with your personality. The traits you describe, like learning from ones mistakes without being overwhelmed, contribute to being able to have a business, but so do zoning and tax laws as well as if you life in a economically isolated country or not. Even your access to transport - someone in Alabama might spend 2x on shipping what someone in NYC would.

I was thinking about where my beliefs often fit in today - I concluded that in many areas, I generally sit on the fence. In this case again, that's me. They could conduct a test to find these sorts of things out - they would probably find that children of successful people were more successful, but this wouldn't prove anything in reality. Why? Because these children would have probably had it instilled in them that they would have to be successful and businesslike to get anything out of life.

As I said, I sit on the fence with these sorts of things, but if I had to choose, then I'd lean to nurture rather than nature.

I say you are born an entrepreneur...in most cases.
It takes a certain kind of personality and attitude to say, "this is a great idea and I can do it!"...you know...the "glass is half full" kind of person. Sure you can be taught that attitude if you are young or open enough, but I think this kind of thinking comes naturally to some people.

yeh im kind of on the fence with this now after the mixed responses and scenarios put out by people not only on this forum, but others too, i think its amix of both personally

Definitely born.

In the old communist USSR people run underground factories right under their
party bosses noses and made millions of rubles by supplying market demand
for consumer goods.

Of course 1M rubles at that time was somewhere around $10,000

but entrepreneurial blood
made them do it even under conditions where the ultimate price for their business spirit
happened to be their own lives.
