I've been dusting off the archives, and found this one I had forgotten about. What a terrible oversight on my part! This is from back when I only had the faintest idea what I was doing. There's more luck here than anything else ... this was on the way home after I'd given up on what seemed like it would be a good vantage point. And then after a few years I'd forgotten about this one.
Anyway, I hope others like it as much as I do.

Nice composition and lighting. Don't know why, but it made me think about the possibility of a composited pic of stairways a la M.C. Escher....

Wow, great shot. Any photoshop editing on that? Also, what do the steps say if anything?

Cool - I always like your pictures! When I first looked at it early this morning I thought it looked romantic, now it looks kind of spooky.

Haha. I like it a lot. It's a great picture. It DOES look spooky, but only once you really look at it.
Where is that, by the way?

I'm a huge Escher fan, so I'm going to take that as a complement... So, thanks!

They're inscribed with peoples' names, for some of the folks who helped make Coit Tower happen.
Plenty of Photoshop was involved ... and this was back in the 5.5 or 6 days. A really long time ago, people had to develop film; digital cameras need a bit of "developing," too. They're generally made to bring back as much data as possible, which means a flat, low-contrast image that's malleable on the computer. A lot of what I do on all of my photos comes down to the basics: color balance, contrast, sharpness for a particular display size. And then because early digitals were really bad with long exposures, I had to remove a lot of flaws from the CCD.

San Francisco. I set up a Google Map with the exact spot if you're curious; it was a couple miles from where I worked when I used to live there. It's also at the top of a hill, so I figured I'd get some good city skyline shots. Ironically none of them were any good, and it was only chance I took this particular stairway going home.

Speaking of landscapes, you'll probably like this one:
Unless you meant landscape orientation?

Awesome stairway shot -- and I too thought "it would be fun to composite that for a halloween theme manipulation'
Great shot Forrest !
