How old were you when you first took interest in web design?

I was between 9-11 years old and had an obsession with making a game cheats site. I was thrilled at the thought.

However when I was 12 I first put up my personal website with a few free java games on.

Now I am 18, 19 in December and am doing quite well ^^

I started off with a rubbish site at freewebs.com - about history I believe.

I was probably 13 I think. That was my first step into cyber space

I've come a long way since though.

I would give you the URL of my site, but it is literally terrible (i.e. different formatting on every page) so I think I'll save myself the embarrassment...

Please do, can't be worse than mine, red background with orange writing. It was about Populous: The Beginning which was a computer game that I was obsessed with at the time.

My first website I ever created, was when around 10. Can't remember what it was about now.

Now I'm almost 21 and design websites during the weekend or when I'm not at work.

Forgot to mention I was hosted up on Tripod and Geocities. I used WYSIWYG editors like web studio until I was about 14.

I created my first sites in WYSIWYG editors and have been doing so until a couple of months ago when I decided it was time to move to the next step and do it completely by hand.

I guess I might as well give you the link to that terrible site I created...Some of it is copy and pasted and I haven't updated it for years now so I don't know if it even makes sense...

EDIT: just looked at the site - it is genuinely awful (i.e. the name HistoryIsUsYep

Bear in mind I was 13 or maybe even 12 at the time and had no idea about web design or much internet stuff back then...

19, when I was in university and they gave us 3 weeks to build a website. It was in 1996, and everyone thought I was a super-genius because I was able to include a background image in my site (a rainbow cube on a black background) and magenta Arial text. Everyone else just threw a bunch of text up in Times New Roman, black text on that grey Netscape background.

I don't know where it is now. It's on the university server somewhere.

Not a fair question - at least not for me... I'm a LOT older than most of you, there was no WWW when I was a teenager !

I was 11-12 when I started, all I know was html and some css, when I was 14-15 I started in php and sql. Now I'm 17 and I know quite abit but still not enough.

Let me just say that if you add together the starting ages of the first 5 or 6 posters that is about when I started.

I have a grandchild the same age as a couple of you.

I made my first web site when I was 14 (1999). It was hosted on gURLpages and it had a star background and an animated .gif of a lava lamp. And I was thrilled when I learned frames. Then I moved on to other free hosting sites that didn't have ads (or you could delete them) like virtue.nu and envy.nu. And had cliques, web rings, and lots of guestbook comments!

I think I was about 11yrs old when I first started dabbling in web design. It was a personal homepage hosted on Tripod. I was very into it, lol, putting in graphics, cyberpets and whatnot.

It's still on the web somewhere tho most of the images are missing and recently a friend of mine found it and they all had a good laugh about it.

And yeap, even had one on freewebs where I first experimented with tables. First WYSIWYG tried was dreamweaver tho I didn't quite get the hang of it. Still prefer editing HTML on a blank page. Hehe

I first started feeling a passion for design in general at 15 years old. Took interest in web design as a career two years later.
