What would you do if you could turn back time?

Go back in time? Probably to the wild west mainly because I love that time in history.
Or
During the 1720's, the golden age of piracy, again because I love pirate stories and reading about them. Currently reading 'Under the Black Flag' by David Cordingly. For anyone who likes pirates, then this book is a must.

I think Rich means what would you do if you could go back and change things, perhaps in your life, or in history.
I'm not really sure. I mean you could say things like "I'd kill Hitler and ensure that 6 million Jews survived" but then that would lead to other problems - they'd be a replacement for Hitler inevitably, and that could be even worse (perhaps this replacement guy would win the second world war).

Wasn't to sure if he meant back in time, or to change something.
In terms of changing something, I'm not sure if there is anything that I would like to change. If you changed something then that could lead to bigger problems, but it could also be the other way round.

Yeh I think you'd have to look at this from a philosophical angle (i.e. the sort of thing that people think of when they smoke weed, this being an example! lol)
Changing something could possibly create bigger problems in the future - it reminds me of the butterfly effect, that a butterfly fluttering in the Brazilian rainforest could cause hurricanes in the Carribean. I don't actually take that literally, but very small changes could make massive differences to the world in 100 years. For example, something as little as getting to the office 10 minutes late one day could lead to an economic collapse in 100 years time! That's unlikely too, but small changes can lead to much bigger ones.

weird! I was just thinking about this on my way to work this morning!
I have made a lot of mistakes in my life and a lot of times I wish I could go back and change things. But then again, I start thinking like you guys think....if I change that, what if things turn out worse?

6 million Jews, and 5 million non Jews. Sorry, not trying to get political, but we can't forget the Catholics and the Armenians and the unionists and the gays and
Personally I'd go back to Florida in 2000 and tell people to make sure it's really clear on who they're voting for.

Yes I didn't mention those and probably should have. The Holocaust wasn't just Jews, it was a genocide against all of Hitler's undesirables.

Yeah. I'm not trying to scorn you, I just have a pet peeve that everybody seems to forget the other 5 million or so. The Nazis took out about 11 million people total. I come from Russian heritage, so this is something my family talked about a lot when I was young. I always wondered why to most people the Holocaust was only against the Jewish people? They were hit very hard and made an easy scapegoat, but that black period in history affected just about everyone.
That would obviously be everyone's 1st choice, to go back and prevent this. Only, you hit the nail right on the head. If it wasn't Hitler, it would have been someone else. It seems like in the early 1900s that part of Europe was like the Middle East today.
K, I've digressed enough.

I wouldn't say it was like the Middle East is now, but then again it was due to the West.
The USA and the British forced Germany to pay a huge amount of money, which combined with the depression from 1929 onwards, was a ticking time bomb. It's no wonder that the German people thought the only escape was through electing someone like Hitler

If Hiroshima and Nagasaki hadn't been bombed, then it would have lead to the loss of millions of servicemen who would have had to fight in close combat with the Japanese. The Japanese would have died rather than surrender - it would have been a massacre of life.

Hah! You're not thinking big enough. I'd travel back several million years, stick a big black monolith up in the camps of our distant ancestors with my mug on it, so that when I returned all would worship me.
Mwah, hah haaaah!!!

While the whole Creation vs Evolution and/or Age of the Earth thing is interesting, I don't think it should be discussed in this thread.

Respectfully, Alvaro, it was a joke, with a reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey. Whym's right, that debate's a moot point, we're simply not going to agree. Besides, if I had been serious, I'd have thought you'd have jumped on wanting to go back in time to take God's place....

If I could turn back time I would spend more time or at least appreciate more the time I had with loved ones who have died.
