Hey guys, I recenntly found a software called Foxit Reader. Basically, it is a SUPER LIGHT weight program that opens up PDF file.
It is MUCH faster than Adobe Reader and doesn't come with a lot of junk.

I was wondering if there's a program like that for Java Runtime?
I sometimes use Azureus (i use uTorrent more), and LimeWire, and both need the Java program. and even some web apps need it.

I rather use a faster program than than the one i downloaded from Sun for my java needs.

thanks

I think that's impossible.
Because Java is a pretty huge runtime, it takes quite some time to load.
It isn't worth to try and make a Java runtime that's lighter than the current, because you might gain some seconds absolute, but relatively spoken your earnings are too small.

Unless someone is more efficient at programming than the guys at Sun, then I doubt you will find an alternative. If you cut out parts of the runtime, there could be compatibility issues with some Java programs.

Plus, I find that Java programs run fast enough anyway.

Well, yes and no. There's the .NET Framework which is significantly faster than Java, but incompatible. That is to say the code written in Java won't work in J# without some conversion.

I think J# is very different from normal Java, right?
Just like C# looks very different from C++.

Plus .NET is a Microsoft feature so you can give that up right now. :P

Yes, exactly. Java to J# is like C++ to C#. You can't just copy and paste the code - it won't compile. And yet I think that's the closest thing we have available as a different Java framework.

A person could go and build one, but J2EE is a sort of virtual machine. You'd have to write code that would read other code, create and manage the variables it declares, deal with the operating system's threading on behalf of the Java code it's running, and just all kinds of nightmare things to try and code.
