Canadian Dollar opens highest in 30 years

I was wondering what everyone’s opinion was considering the Canadian Dollars opened today at 1.04.00 compared to the American Dollar. I’m thinking this puts me in the mood to buy some American links J what are your thoughts and does this affect you in anyway? This is a all time high for the Canadian Dollar and I’m proud that it seems to be rising so much J Overall I don’t think it’s due to our Canadian economy doing so well I strongly believe this is due to the American Dollar doing so poorly and becoming worthless seeing China and Japan have enough American currency to purchase half of America itself.
Please share your opinion I would like to hear what you think regarding our Canadian Dollar vs the American Dollar,

Yup, this is why international products like gasoline are getting more and more expensive state side.

Strong Canadian dollar is maybe good for Canadian Tourists to US
but not for companies who sell their products and get paid in $USD.
3 years ago our company would put in the bank $147.00CND for every
$100.00USD and now it’s $5.00 less than that.
So, I guess it all depends on what is your benefit and how it's affects you
or your business.

Our British Pound remains strong as it has done for months now - I think the global credit crunch caused mainly by the recession in the US housing market is the main cause of the weak dollar. It's good for me as I mainly import things from the U.S. if I do purchase stuff, but bad for our exporters who look expensive to Americans.

Part of this is the global credit crunch, but a great deal is thanks to Iraq and our reckless and negligent fiscal policy over the past 7 years or so.

It's great for my Canadian relatives when they come to see me...their money is worth more in my city, but it's not so great when I go to their side of the border. I have a cousin who lives near Toronto and has season tickets to the Buffalo Sabres. He said the tickets are more affordable this year than they ever have been - which is great since they just had their first baby.
It's not so great when you consider that the last time I was able to go up to Nova Scotia it cost me about $300 in gas and now it would cost me over $500. That's not all the difference in the strength of the US dollar though, part of it is the increase in the price of gasoline too.

£250 on petrol?! Lol that is mad - I guess it just reinforces the analogy:
Brits think 100 miles is a long way, Americans think 100 years is a long time.
We don't really have the land area that it would cost you £250 to travel from one place to another!

One way from the city I live in to the city my father lives in is just over 1100 miles And it's $250 US dollars...not pounds - there is a major difference!!

The most quickly I've ever managed to drive from coast to coast is five days. The longest was a little more than two months.

Great posts, I think this was almost the most active I have seen this topic and I posted it at 7 or 8 forums.
I like all your opinions and they all make since. I'm currently enjoying the purchasing of many links on blogs and forums for very cheap. I pay Canadian and I don't have to pay tons anymore

It's not really the parity that's making news, it's the way the CAN shot up against the USD. It's been almost a year since I've been to Canada, but the exchange rate at the time was around 1:0.7 or so. That's a pretty drastic change in ten months' time.
There's a provincial park between Vancouver and Whistler that's a favorite of bald eagles, who migrate through in December and January. I'm considering to camp instead of stay in hotels, partly because our money is so much weaker. But also that will mean less time in the car and more time behind the camera.
They say Washington state is doing well for the Canadian shoppers, though, and I'd imagine upper New England too.

Lets not forget that Canadian Economy these days on the top of the list and
that we have surplus in trade whereas US trade is in the hole.
First time in so many years, I can now go to States and buy more junk using
my Canadian Dollars without worrying how many more hours I have to work to
pay an extra for exchange.

Maybe it's time to invade Canada like in the South Park movie, and steal their booming economy?

Funny you say that but in Canada our economy is all American. So in the end you would be only taking back what you brought here in the first place HAHA!

No, not really.
We still, in most cases, paying old exchange prices in Canada.
Advertised price for the same TV in Costco or WallMart or Future Shop is less
in States than in Canada and if you are up for early CM shopping, you will do
better by crossing the boarder.
