I was born in Denver, and while I've spent most of my life near one of the oceans, I go back to visit Colorado more than most places. Back in 2000, I lived there for two months, and spent half the week exploring the mountains. This was December and January, so it was stark, but not ideal for traveling. I wound up on the same road in May of 2003, with a new destination.
Both times I pulled over at the same curve in the road to snap a picture. The first time I really didn't know anything about photography, just that the Rockies are incredible and I should try to show my friends back home why. I snapped the first image with a cardboard disposable 35 mm. Three and a half years later, I had learned a little bit about photog ... what a drastic difference!
I didn't set out to make an A/B comparison, although I recognized the spot once I set the tripod up. Hopefully this isn't a "you had to be there" moment. I had lost the first image for years, just found it a few days ago. A friend of mine told me he assumed the place always looked like the second photo.
