I got an email today forwarded to me by my future sister-in-law...I can't believe she did this. Why do people still believe that microsoft will track how many people you forward a message to, and will pay you hundreds of dollars to forward it??
What is the point of these stupid emails? No one gains or loses anything from them. And why would you fall for it?
Subject line: FW: PLEEEEEEEEASE REEEEEAD! IT WAS ON GOOD MORNING AMERICA TODAY SHOW
Email:
Code:
Read carefully...
THIS TOOK TWO PAGES OF THE TUESDAY USA TODAY - IT IS FOR REAL
To all of my friends, I do not usually forward messages,
But this is from my friend Pearlas Sandborn and she really is
an attorney.
If she says that this will work - It will work. After all,What have
you got to lose?
SORRY EV ERY BODY.. JUST HAD TO TAKE THE CHANCE!!! I'm an
attorney, And I know the law. This thing is for real. Rest assured
AOL and &nbs p; Intel will follow through with their promises for
fear of facing a multimillion-dollar class action suit similar to the one
filed by PepsiCo against General Electric not too long ago.
Dear Friends: Please do not take this for a junk letter.
Bill Gates sharing his fortune. If you ignore this, You will repent
later.
Microsoft and AOL are now the largest Internet companies
and in an effort to make sure that Internet Explorer remains the
most widely used program, Microsoft and AOL are running an e-mail
beta test.
When you forward this e-mail to friends, Microsoft can and will
track it (If you are a Microsoft Windows user) For a two weeks
time period.
For every person that you forward this e-mail to, Microsoft w ill pay
you $245.00 For every person that you sent it to that forwards it on,
Microsoft will pay you $243.00 and for every third person that receives
it, You will be paid $241.00. Within two weeks, Microsoft will contact
you for your address and then send you a check.
Regards. Charles S Bailey General Manager Field Operations
1-800-842-2332 Ext. 1085 or 904-1085 or RNX 292-1085
Thought this was a scam myself, But two weeks after receiving this
e-mail and forwarding it on. Microsoft contacted me for my address and
within days, I received a check for $24, 800.00 . You need to respond
before the beta testing is over. If anyone can afford this, Bill gates is the
man.
It's all marketing expense to him. Please forward this to as many
people as possible. You are bound to get at least $10, 000.00
We're not going to hel p them out with their e-mail beta tes t without
getting a little something for our time. My brother's girlfriend got in
on this a few months ago. When I went to visit him for the Baylor/UT
game, she showed me her check. It was for the sum of $4,324.44 and
was stamped 'Paid In Full'.
First of all, "Good Morning America Today Show" does not exist. Those are 2 separate shows.
Second, anything that repeatedly says "this is for real"....isn't.
Third, why would anyone pay you to forward an email that isnt selling anything and links to nothing?

I know, I got this one today at work:
Quote:
Forward this to at least 7 people and see what happens on your screen . you will laugh your head off!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the coolest thing I have ever gotten. All you have to do is send it to 7 people and watch your screen, it is the funniest clip. I can't tell you what it is but I was laughing so hard I almost fell off my chair!!! So, send it to those 7 people and watch.
!
MAYOURFRIENDSHIP NEVER COME APART ESPECIALLYWHENIT'SSTRAIGHTFROM THE HEART!
MAY YOU ALWAYS HAVE A RAINBOW OF SMILES ON YOURFACEANDIN YOUR HEART FOREVERAND EVER!
FRIENDS FOREVER!
If you forward it to 7 people a video comes on your screen.
This works. I don't know how...but it works.

Not quite the same thing, but just as stupid. I hate chain emails!!

You should try the 800 number. Or maybe you shouldn't.
The last paragraph is funny; beta testing isn't a marketing expense. Microsoft is actually using some of their beta versions to attract interest, but officially they're among the last stages of user acceptance testing, which comes under the dev umbrella.

I received a chain mail that had a presentation of Chinese proverbs - it was a bit random and I can't see the benefit to whoever made it - Powerpoint didn't crash (well not on my Mac), and it became so boring, I didn't go to the end - not the proverbs themselves, the repetitive aspect of them.
Another favourite chain mail junk is the "Hotmail is going paid" chain mail with a link to a BBC story written 5 or 6 years ago.
A strange spammy thing happened today too - it was about Gullible Inks. Here's what arrived in the Gullible Inks inbox:
Quote:
Hi VIAGRA Official Site <gullible@gullible.org.uk> , you've reached Gullible
Inks. You have been placed on hold indefinitely.
We are interested in ink exchange. If you are highly reputable, we suggest you
never contact us again. If not, then thanks for your email regarding October 73%
OFF .
Gullible Inks Inc.
(Putting the ink back into ink exchange)
|
This is the default autoresponder I set up - I don't know why I received a carbon copy of this, but I must have received the original spammy email because some spammer got annoyed with Gullible Inks 101% monopoly on the ink exchange market.
P.S. - I didn't write all of that - a few words were automatically inserted by the autoresponder program itself! I never knew spammers were named after their spammy products too though....

Stephanie: the correct answer to your question is, "people are idiots". As soon as you understand this, all will make sense.

I received the following from my sister...and I didn;t even have to send it on to 7 people nor did she promise me $245 each time someone completes this list...
All answers must begin with the first letter of your name.
Quote:
Example:
What is your name? Larry
Vehicle: Lincoln
TV Show: Looney Tunes
City: Los Angeles
Boy Name: Lester
|
- now you try it - but do not send it to 7 friends and don't expect any money for completing the list... at least not from me.
Quote:
What is your name?
Vehicle:
TV Show:
City:
Boy Name:
Girl Name:
Alcoholic drink:
Occupation:
Something you wear:
Celebrity:
Something found in a bathroom:
Reason for being late:
Cartoon Character:
Something you shout:

When I was a kid a neighbor had a cute little 3 year old just learning to talk. A train went by and he shouted "a fain, a fain". I commented how cute that was and his father said "that's not cute, you should hear him say truck".

Ugh...I hate those chain emails so much. I also can't stand the ones that claim some big company is going to donate for a sick kid based on how many times I forward their email.
There must be some seriously gullible people out there because I get this crap all the time lately. I just shrug it off when it's from someone who isn't that computer savvy, but I've gotten some from friends who should know better.

Ho boy....
It must be almost 10 years I hadn't seen that MS/AOL scam.
Brings back so many memories...
I even remember having received one that was accredited by Microsoft, AOL, mcAffee and Linux.
The "linux" really did sounded odd in that one...

When I receive e-mails such as the one you posted, I send the following response to all recipients in the distribution chain. Amazingly, I now get far fewer of these e-mails sent to me.
Quote:
FYI - this e-mail is SPAM! ANY e-mail that encourages you to forward it on to as many people as possible (or a set number of people) is spam - regardless of the content of the message. If a message is worth reading and repeating, you won't need a plea in the message begging you to do so.
Spam does not need to be overtly malicious to do its job, which is to be forwarded and in turn, slow down the internet. Just look at this distribution list and see how many times this note has already been forwarded. When you wonder why the internet is running slow you need look no further than messages just like this one. Instead of running a virus to cause the e-mail to be forwarded, clever spammers just create an inspirational story, cute picture, or even prayers and get the unsuspecting recipients to do the work a virus would do for them, which is to go into your distribution list and forward the e-mail. Essentially, you are being tricked into acting as the virus!
The person who originally created this message, in all likelihood, probably just wants to see how far the message will spread. They want to see how many innocent, well intentioned people, will be duped and forward this e-mail.
So please, when you get an e-mail that asks you to send it on to other people, please don't - and especially, don't send it to me.
Thanks
