When entering a website we all subconsciously start evaluating it. We quickly decide whether we like it or not. The question is what we think is most annoying and what bugs us the most.

I recently read an article about it(links to more articles can be found at the bottom of that article) and saw some interesting things. I realized that I've done some of those mistakes myself.

Please reply and tell me what makes you leave a website.

Hard to read colors. Cruddy writing. Advertising, especially when it flashes a lot of finds a different way to scream out at you.

advertising, pop-ups, sound I can't shut off, hard to read colors or fonts, poor writing, I could go on but I can't be typing this response all night

Windows that pop-up in the background. Sites created for only one browser. Flash intros, especially ones that don't have a "skip intro" link. Playing music on the page loading. Graphical page backgrounds that make the text hard to read.

Yea, I get irritated by to much advertising too. Text ads especially because then you loose your navigation through the content.

2. trying to prevent me doing something i want to do. Like leave.
3. Bad writing. when i say bad i mean no paragraphs, No commas and no stops. Amaturish writing i can handle, Everyone has to start somewhere, but lazy writing makes me sick.

Generally stupid flash popups that ask you to do a survey. Popups in general, stupid music, hard to read text and sites that don't work correctly in FF.

Pop-ups would be up there in my top 5 things that bug me.

I really hate the "new" css style ones that pop up over the page, but not in a new window. They usually have close buttons on them, but they never seem to work. You click to close it and you end up visiting the advertisers site. grrrr!!

1) Sites that don't work in Firefox or any other browser apart from Internet Explorer.
2) Sites that don't follow web standards at all - sites that are completely table based. This is far FAR worse if it's a designers site and you can see it was designed in Dreamweaver or Frontpage!
3) Adsense on a web site that is selling you a product. It makes no sense at all! Do they have so little confidence in their own product that they make more from advertising someone elses?!
4) Sites that are one colour throughout - no gradients, no white space at the sides, just a single colour from one side of the browser to the other side.
5) Poor consideration about colour. I.e. black writing on dark blue - that irritates me.
6) Sounds or videos with sound that start as soon as you open a page. Unrelated music makes a site look amateurish too.
7) Flashy things everywhere. I hate those ones for email or something that whoever designed the site thinks looks great, but everyone else hates.
8) Landing pages - "Hi welcome to the site. Click here to enter". What's the point of that?! It's worse when its very poorly designed.
9) Sites that have strange background images on the entire design - blue water and bubbles or some rock things that the WYSIWYG editor has allowed the guy to put in.
10) Completely flash based designs - this is terrible for SEO and not good for visitors with different browsers, or ones without flash installed.
11) Sites that have HUGE pages of unrelated links that were blatantly used for link exchanges. By unrelated, I mean something that gives no benefit to the visitor, even if the site is "art-related" or "business related".
12) Sites that are made up entirely of photos and that load slowly so you can see this happening.
13) Sites that use images rather than text in navigation bars.
14) Sites with stupidly long URLs
15) Sites that have title headers that don't start with a capital letter or are blatantly keyword stuffed.
16) Links that have been left as their default styles - blue with no hover colour or anything at all.
17) Sites that have internal scroll bars in pages.
18) Sites that say "best viewed at 1024 x 768" or whatever resolution.
19) Sites that have no backward navigation - you are left at a certain page and can't go anywhere.
20) Navigation bars that still have bullet points which simply don't fit with the theme and make it look amateurish

Phew that was LONG! I have a number of other issues with sites, but this is certainly a good START. Lol

Heavy graphics, flash , sites with no way back, sites where i couldn't find where to click to do something, unstandard structered websites, creepy big graphics etc

for me it's sites with too many ads, ads that don't fit in the layout, ads that 'slide' over the page, ads that look like part of the navigation, ads that fade into your whole page and take you to another site (!!), pop up ads.

I get that people want to make money but the ones with the issues above should concentrate on integrating ads into their layout and make sure the alignment isn't thrown off by some huge ad.

btw nice list Dan, I don't agree 100% - I'm bias but for the most part I agree.
