For example:
DMo224 First of all, that was a nickname of mine, without the 224, at a place where I used to work. So, I just kept it. It's pronounced DeeMo and it's the first initial of my first name plus the first 2 letters of my last name. I used to keep the 224 secret, but someone guessed it along time ago. So, that's my birthday. Now that you know, you don't have to send me any gifts, large quantities of money is just fine!
Now that you know more than you wanted, who else will share about their username?

I thought it would be interesting to see how current users thought up of their username, I'll start:
Mine is actually my campus ID (which are assigned to us by the university I'm attending, UWM) so I thought it was convenient to use.

OK--SAIR-en da-FAY, a combination of Welsh and Middle English that means "star of the Fae" (the "shining ones" of Celtic lore, not Tinkerbell). The star in question is a seven-pointed star, one for each spectral color, note in an octave (the last note is a harmonic of the first), periods in the periodic table, chakras (energy nodes in the body's EM field)....I suppose I could go on, but I'll stop there.

Hi
I use to use kingdomathand based in some words from a book which i´ll quote so it´s a quotation, meaningful for me...
It´s written:
---"....notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you." Luke 10:11
¸.•*´¨`*•.¸¸.•*´¨`*•.¸May your day be wonderful.•*´¨`*•.¸¸.•*´¨`*•.¸¸

The joy of seeing souls redeemed, souls eternally saved, is the reward of all that put their feet in the footprints of Him who said, "Follow Me." DA, 523.4
He was in the wilderness in obedience to God, and He would not obtain food by following the suggestions of Satan. In the presence of the witnessing universe, He testified that it is a less calamity to suffer whatever may befall than to depart in any manner from the will of God.Desire of Ages
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."

My name is from a German expression meaning "never mind" or "it doesn't matter".
Normally it's spelled "macht nichts" or ""macht es nichts", but I changed the spelling
so it would look cool.
I've used this name long before the internet existed. Unfortunately, I've found other
people using it on the net. I guess I should've TM'd it.

Wow, I speak German and didn't catch that one. Pretty cool, Lance.
Makes me think about using "Istegal". Actually two words, ist egal, which means about the same thing as macht's nichts, but together sounds like a name.

That surprises me, Tim. I thought you'd be the first to pick that up.

"macht nichts"
As I remember from my school years German Language class
macht translate to: made, make
and
nichts translate to: nothing
So, "macht nichts" should translate to "making nothing"
Am I wrong?

Yep. You're right. But figuratively, macht es nichts (make it nothing), or macht's nichts contracted, means "it means nothing". The typical use would be if a person said, "Es tut mir leid" (literally "it does me sorrow" or "Sorry 'bout that.") as a response, like, "No biggie".

Literally, you are correct.
But as Tim pointed out, many phrases aren't meant to be translated literally.
They wouldn't mean the same thing and wouldn't make any sense.

Mine is quite simple, really. I'm 6'2" and have a big build, I love metal music, and I'm a dude. A guy at a show one day just started calling me Big Metal Dude and it stuck.

I loved the movie Forrest Gump, and the poignant music of Jim Croce. So I imagined the two of them fusing into one.
Generally the only time I use ForrestCroce is if Forrest is taken, although that doesn't seem to be the case...?

Back in 97 I used to play MechWarrror 2 under a different, quite harsh, name. Wanted to change it to something a little less hard, unique and available on hotmail So it was changed to Elisor, normally shortened to Eli. Elisor = Ellie Saur (think dinoSaur). Eli pronounced Ellie.
Since then Elisor has been my nick on most forums. Later on I found out that Elisor is actually a real word: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/elisor
Paul.

I use 'Schimassek' for many things (it's my family name ^_^), but after some while I wanted to change it into something different. As my project codenames were based on Infinity I got the two names together and this is it.

This account is (somewhat sadly I must admit!) named after my house - The Whym. The house itself was called that because it was thought in the 19th century to be stupid to build a house near the top of a hill without a water supply, hence the guy who built it must have "done it on a whim". I'm not 100% sure why it's spelled differently though - just something else obscure?!
Anyway, the name being very original, I decided to use it as my username/nickname in a number of places, this being one of them. Later on, the hosting company itself was called "Whym Web Hosting" too.
