To coincide with Gx3 and the previous posters, there is very limited copyright protection in regards to recipes. The reason is, is that there is really only so many things you can do with a recipe, and most recipes are diversions, adjustments, or slight manipulations of someone else's work.
If any of you followed the news with Jerry Seinfeld's wife (I forget her name at the moment) she was legally untouchable although her works were arguably the exact same as another author's, so although I am glad you got the other site to take it down, the reality is, good luck in the court system.
Nonetheless, good on you for just contacting them and working it out peaceably. That is the best approach, and I wish more lawyers/individuals would do it. If you were smart, you could have worked out a licensing agreement, especially since you have little ground to stand on the courts, it would have been a great revenue stream and a way to increase your marketability and visibility.
