Hi, Someone has been visiting my website a lot lately, from the same country I live in, Thailand, so it is obvious they are not looking to buy anything, more likely to steal, if anything. One day they clicked on my site 8 times in about 90 seconds, 18 visits total for that day. I am using GoStats to track visitors, which displays their IP address. My question is, can I find out who these people are by using their IP address ? I would like to know why they are hitting my site so much. Also, if you have 2 computers in the 1 home, both running off the same internet connection, do they both have the same IP address ? Thanks for the great forum, Mickmac

If you can, block their IP or IP range? It is highly unlikely you will find out who they are individually. If they work for a company, you may be able to find the company name by checking the IP against DNS.

If you have 2 computers at home using the same internet connection, you use 1 public IP address. Then a router routes the traffic to 2 internal private IP addresses.

^ Put the IP adress there and it will tell you the service provider, and their location (down to about a city's range). However, if they are using a proxy, it will show you the location of the proxy.

Create .htaccess

<Limit>
order allow,deny
allow from all
deny from 0.0.0.0
</Limit>

and add it to your site web directory
Block IP as needed

Why do you say that? As a fellow Thai, I'm pretty sure you're not calling your own people thieves. And it would seem local customers are more likely than international, no?

As mentioned, you can block the address. That might not be your best move, though ... especially if the person is surfing your pages because they might actually want to save up for one of your products? What is it you're concerned might be stolen? Some things are easier to lock down than others.

Can you clarify what these numbers actually represent? Is it eight page views in one short visit? That could be pre fetch: some web browsers will download pages linked to from the one you're visiting, so that when you click a link, it doesn't have to wait for the server, just loads immediately.

No. A few years ago in Seattle, a naked man broke into an apartment, and used the peoples' internet connection to surf porn. I don't think you can even trace an IP back to the individual paying the bill - assuming it's an individual account - but even if the isp gives you this info, that doesn't tell you who was actually using the computer at the time.
