Does anyone know of a quick and reliable merchant program? I am not a fan of PayPal, but due to it being common I have an account.Three to four business days is just too long to transfer money from my own account to PayPal and then to make equipment or software purchases. I do not under any circumstances want to leave money just sitting in a PayPal account. Merchant accounts through banks, as far as I have seen, are a bit pricey. It takes even longer if I have to wait on a check from a client to clear my bank, deposit into a PayPal and then make a purchase. Any suggestions?

I'm not aware of any that happening faster. I have a merchant account, but even that takes a few days before any more is in my account.

The real solution is to increase your cash flow. You're still waiting for new money that same as you were before, but since you have more cash on hand it's not a big deal. Easier said than done I know.

If you are planning on spending money through PayPal too it's probably fine to leave some money in there. Then you don't have to wait a few days to transfer it in.

You can use PayPal Credit Card to pay your bills or to buy some stuff and then transfer founds from your Bank. It should speed up your buying needs.

What about Google Checkout? That has a merchant feature as well, right? And I believe that clients are not required to make an account to make a purchase either.

Small purchases are not such a big deal, it is when it hits a couple of thousand that I do not want to order until they clear. Not everyone wants to use online services. So, then I am stuck waiting for their check to clear, then transferring money. It is a pain. I didnt think about once their check clears just sticking it on that PayPal credit card. Anyone know what kind of a credit limit they have? Google checkout is a bit pokey about clearing things too.
I am just terrified of leaving much money sitting in a PayPal or Google checkout.
Thanks for the advice guys!

What if they paid for stuff using an eCheck? Authorize.net apparently offers eChecks as an option, and can even collect the driver's license of the "check-writer". I don't know exactly how this portion of the Authorize.Net service works, but it is mentioned in their API and it's a pretty easy API to work with (took me about 4 hours to do what I wanted to do with it...and that's the least amount of time I have ever spent on a non-hosted solution.)
