Over here, people seem to be going over the top - the opposite of what's happening over there then. Commercialism has completely taken hold and the real meaning has all but disappeared. If you asked any 5 year old here what Christmas was all about, or what the Christmas story is about, I would expect more than half would reply with something about Santa, the reindeer or snowmen (for stories). The meaning for them is mostly about presents. The real meaning has been completely lost, and secularists are rubbing their hands with glee.
As always, economists are usually complaining about how people aren't spending enough. This is ridiculous post-credit crunch when saving money and paying off debt is critical to the survival of the economy.
