Happy Geek New Year!

The CES is going on in Vegas, where a bunch of technology fans go to see the latest gadgets, and the direction society is going in. I'm guessing nobody here is going, and that any particular item that comes out isn't going to change the world. But I think technology is already on the scale of when humans learned agriculture. And there's a clear evolution going on, where different gadgets are converging, they're all becoming more interconnected, and, unfortunately, it's the market place (heavily influenced by commercials) that decides what lives and what dies.

Thoughts?

Bill Gates? He was a great businessman and has revolutionised the computer world - even if his predictions about the future of computers usually sound stupid after 5 years

On a related note, Bill made his final keynote speech last night at the CES.

I'm still a little disappointed at the turn of the blu-ray/hd-dvd war with Warner choosing blue-ray exclusively.

He made his 11th and final appearance as keynote speaker at CES.
Meaning it's his last before he retires.

I'm not sure the show itself has brought anything to the world ... people just go there to show off their goodies. A lot of new digital cameras are announced around this time.
