OK--a metaphor is a likening of two dissimilar things, such as:
"I am a rock, I am an island," or, "I am the walrus!"
A simile is the same thing, just using like or as, such as:
"Like a virgin...."  or, to finally use a better example, "She walks in beauty, like the night."
