Whats the deal with cancer? Why have so many people come into contact with it, and why does it continue to threaten our world? What are some causes of it, and why don't they act upon known causes?
In Canada Cancer is a huge issue, and I really want to know why. I've read up on a few things, and have talked to my parents about it, however its still a grey area for me.
Thanks for any responses

Every human being, actually, every multicellular being, has cancerous cells, which are mutations of your own cells. Your white blood cells normally will kill off mutated cells. What makes it become a potentially fatal condition, that is, these cells spreading out of control, is an autoimmune disease. The white blood cells either don't recognize them as a threat and/or can't keep up with the rapid spread. The primary known causes are genetic, exposure to chemicals or radiation. In all types it is best to detect it and treat it before the mutated cells reach the lymphatic system, because it is from there that cancerous cells reach other parts of the body from where they started; that's called metastasis. It's when these cells start interfering with normal body functions that they become life threatening. Does that help with some of your questions?

Yep indeed. But whats all this about pesticides, mcdonalds, aspertane and so on. Does the food you intake directly affect your risk of developing cancer?
If we each have cancerous cells, why not destroy them before they develop? .

Smoking definitely increases your risk for lung cancer, but exposure to asbestos or smog can as well. Yes, certain pesticides can cause cell mutations as well. Aspartame is metabolized by the body as formaldehyde and methanol, and is a far more immediately dangerous chemical. I have not heard of it causing cancer. But it will make you crave carbs (ironic since it's put in diet drinks) and should have been pulled off the market years ago. But a balanced diet will also help you fight the risk of most cancers.

Because that is what your immune system is designed to do.

There are mainly three groups of illness.
1.Ills came, affected and gone.
2.Ills still affects.
3.Ills to come in future.
Causes can be many.
Breath fresh air, Drink pure water,Eat natural food and
lead a healthy life.

Well yah, but you never know what is healthy food anymore. As time passes by, we're finding out about more and more chemicals that are condensed into our everyday food.
My coach once gave mt some good advice when i brought up the issue; "Never stick with one product."

1 in 3 people get cancer in their life time meaning that theoretically the "average family" will have at least one person directly affected.
My little brother had a very very rare form of leukeamia (hes in remission for god knows how many years and is very very annouying...).
As said above there are many causes, and triggers which can cause the dormant cancer cells to suddenly decide they will start working and causing havock.
The reason in case you were wondering radiation can cause problems is becasue of how radiation works, and the differant grade of radiation as well, Alpha, Beta and Gamma alpha is stopped by thin stuff like Paper and because its weak,it is more unlikely to cause mutations because the chance of the random electrons which are being shot off in all directions hitting a cell and causeing mutations are minimal and the same is generally true for beta radiation accept this is stopped with thin lead and 1mish concreate, Gamma is the strong stuff which is basically impossible to stop and requires something like 3meters of solid lead to stop.
Also what makes something radioactive is that the atoms are unstable and have too many electrons so it keeps fireing them off trying to stablise, and the whole process is THE only truly random thing in existance! how cool is that!?
anyway i have done enough talking.
If you want a good cancer charity to support http://calmcharity.org is good! donations can be accepted via cheque and hopefully i can get online donations done too soon!

You mentioned that your brother little brother has had leukemia, or maybe still has it/ Now, I don't know how little, but it seems odd to me for children to get cancer. Shouldn't the substances that affect these cancerous cell take time to accumulate? Like I've heard about food containing hydrogenated vegetable oil shortening, which causes cancer, but only if you eat that stuff every day for a few years. However, a child, whom is new to this world, should not be at threat of developing cancer for some time, unless theres something seriously wrong in our lifestyles.
I read somewhere that an excess of light can cause leukemia, stuff like night lights, and not sleeping when your supposed to.
I'll stop now, sicne i'm sure its a touchy subject.

ha was diagnosed when he was one i think, hes now 10 and been in remision for soemthing like 7 years now.
Not it isnt that amazing, the cancer he had was amazing because it was (as far as i know) only ever associated with old people and was amazingly unlikly for a ababy to get it, but many children get and die from cancer, the charity i mention works in a reasonably small area and there are many families it works with (at least 20+) in the small area so a large percentage really and thats only children with cancer/leaukeamia

It does. I had some friends who suffered from it... It is difficult to watch a friend who is suffering from cancer. Her death, I think, was something that got all her pain and suffering away from her...

survivors? I saw a lot of books from them and sometimes movies too. Its hard to imagine all their struggles and all but, I hope more would survive from it. guess I should stop smoking to avoid lung cancer.

You sound suprised?
I believe the survival rate for leukaemia is now 80%
Tumas etc it is still very low as its much harder to completely remove and "cure"

1/3 of children born in the 21st century will develop cancer. 80% will make it through. I guess we've come a long way, however there's always that 20%. Being diagnosed with cancer is no walk in the park either.
I hope it gets to the point where it's just a thing that comes and goes. "Oh you have cancer?" "Are you gonna skip school today?"
It seems that more and more things are being discovered that contribute to your risk of developing cancer. It really starts to get depressing when you find that virtually everything you eat has a border-line chemical in it. Sure it isn't enough to worry about, but .... theres a little in your dinner, a little in lunch, a little in breakfast, a little at Tim Hortons, McDonald's, and it really begins to add up.
