If right now you look into Digg design-upcoming-most

http://digg.com/all/design/upcoming/most

my "artist or ape" page is in the left column on the fifth place with 18 diggs.

However it is absent in the right column "hot in design" which they include in feeds. At the same time "hot" column includes pages with only 4 diggs.

Interesting. Very interesting.

Probably the 'strength' of the user profiles casting those diggs.

Got it. Some diggers are more equal than others.

They now removed my webpage even from the left column. But I saved a screenshot yesterday.

Here is what my webpage finally got on Digg

http://digg.com/design/An_artist_or_an_ape

51 diggs, 4 comments

In contrast, on the Spanish language social bookmark site

http://meneame.net/story/un-artista-o-un-mono

it got 332 meneos and 87 comentarios and was on their front page for several hours yesterday. This is despite that my page is in English.

Some weird things must be happening on Digg.

Maybe you either submitted it yourself or paid for one of those useless "Digg submission services" and they figured it out.

Like Hirst said, though, your issue is a big load of nothing interesting. People who worry about how a system like Digg works in that kind of detail and that pay that much attention to it are usually the ones trying to game it in the first place.

(1) The person who submitted your page to Digg used this comment " Even though both suck as artists - it is pretty easy to tell the difference..." and an avatar that's a picture of a pot leaf. Other things pizzler has submitted

(2) Digg never claimed to be fair or a democracy or equal. They claimed to be entertaining. They take things more seriously from users who help them to do that.

(3) Digg invented their system, so they can really do anything they want with it. If equality is more important to you, you can create EquiDigg, or something like it.

Equality only exists when I'm more equal than you are.

The ones of those I spot checked honestly weren't anything like discussions. One was a handful of links, the other was a 2 sentence blogspot post. Another on MSN groups is two images. The others I saw looked like quick link drops.

Digg's algorithm doesn't count links like Google's seems to.

If you didn't pay for the diggs you got, then what's the problem? There was no swindling - a topic submitted to Digg didn't become popular. It happens every day.

do we assume you are are a student? Or are you simply killing some time?

Because I can think of dozens of better things to be doing any day of the week than watching Digg for several hours or looking for blogs discussing other blogs.
