Since I live in Buffalo, I thought I would see if everyone else thought this idea is as crazy as I do.

The Buffalo Bills announced last week that 8 regular season games will be played in Toronto. Average ticket prices will be $250! The average price at Ralph Wilson Stadium (in Buffalo...well, not technically, technically it's in a suburb) is around $45.

Ralph Wilson has said the games will be played in Toronto to "regionalize fans" and promote new revenue.

The Bills put one of the worst NFL teams in history on the field in the 07/08 season and still sold out every seat for every home game. Not one game was blacked out locally. What more does Ralph want?

My question to you is, do you think NFL teams should be promoted "regionally?" or do you think Ralph Wilson has gone beyond greed into senility?

I think it may be more about selling advertising and merchandise than seats. That's where the bigger bucks are.

I think it's not about Ralph at all. He's 89, and has one foot in the grave.

It's about the NFL and its desire to capitalize on a market that is stupid enough to pay for tickets that are far more expensive than an actual fan can afford. We see this with the Leafs, we saw it with the Blue Jays in the early 90s, we're starting to see it with the Raptors, and we'll see it here. Corporate ticket buying is huge here.

Personally, I dislike the idea because the games will be played in December and it will have an impact on NFL playoff races. I also dislike it because the tickets are being packaged with Argos tickets in such a way as to guarantee that the premium seats only go to Argos season ticket holders.

I'd actually be surprised if any are left within a few months. And the Buffalo people get the royal screwjob in the whole deal.

It may be more about the NFL looking to capitalize on a new market, but believe me Ralph is fully cognitive and behind the idea. For many years he was completely dedicated to keeping the Bills in Buffalo, but over the last few years he has hinted at moving the team or selling the team, which would more than likely result in a move.

It is not the drive to Toronto that is burning us - I'll be driving through an north Friday & back again on Sunday and I spend a great deal of time in Hamilton (a little bit more than a half way to Toronto from my home). It is only an hour and a half drive - Bills fans regularly drive much farther than that to away games.

As a person born and raised in WNY I can tell you that Buffalo fans are quite used to getting the royal screwjob. Look at the 4 90's superbowls, the '99 Stanley Cup, countless ref's calls in favor of opposing teams in football & hockey. We are like abused children - we don't expect a fair deal anymore. And still we sell out hockey games and football games, not by corporations buying out all the seats because real people buy the tickets. But this latest deal with the Bills playing in Toronto for such a high ticket price is a bit much to swallow.

He may be behind the idea, but he could kick the bucket tomorrow, and it's unlikely that he'll see any real benefit of it. That's why this isn't really about Ralph as such.

As far as the drive from Buffalo to Toronto is concerned, you guys get screwed again there, since it's a lot longer than an hour and a half now. The Rogers Centre is located in the downtown core, just off the Gardiner Expressway. From the west edge of the west end of the city (we'll say QEW/403 split just to make it simple), it's a minimum of half an hour just to get to the Spadina offramp. Then it's 15 minutes of maneuvering through the streets of downtown Toronto to find (if you're lucky) one of the last few $6 parking spots where you still have to walk about 6 blocks and thereby avoid the $18-$20 "EVENT PARKING" spots.

And if you can deal with that, then you'll love the $8.00 plastic beer cups and the $4.00 two-bite 12-pack hot dogs.

Man...Buffalo looks more and more like a victim the more I look at this.
