Days when nothing goes right

Today/last night has been a bit like that for me. Everything seems to be going wrong all the time - now I'm just wondering what disaster is going to unfold next...

Girl problems (which I won't divulge here) which have got me down a bit, but then to top it off:

I was walking my dogs along through a local wood when I saw 2 terriers (or small dogs at least) running up the field towards the wood and towards me. Next thing I know, they've reached me and my dogs and start sniffing around. Then, the fight begins. They go straight for my youngest dog's private area (he's called Tim) and he's yelling out in pain (he's on a lead at this point). My other dog is just running around nuts as they chase him too. The young dog breaks loose from the lead and runs off...

I manage to catch up with the man who's in charge of these 2 dogs - he's a typical farmer-poacher type who looks a bit shifty. He instructs me to run up the hill in the wood and see if my youngest dog meets me back there (the dog having ran off pursued by the vicious terriers.)

Once I'm back at the top of the hill, I realise that I've been bitten and my jeans torn. I walk round a bit looking and calling out for Tim. I don't find him. I walk back down through the wood hoping to find him. I decide it's time to call home - get my phone out of the pocket and lone behold it's got teeth marks through and the screens broken.

Now I'm getting desperate. Having used the phone for a few months, although it's still fairly new, I manage to navigate my way around the phone and call home. I report what's happened and just say I'll try finding the man in charge again - see if I can get his name etc. I do catch up with the guy - only to find out he's an arrogant swine who isn't helpful whatsoever. I ask him for his name and he says he won't tell anyone that. He says he has permission to be on the land and be rabbiting/fox hunting (continue reading). He says the phone could have been broken by my dogs and that they weren't on leads either (the one attacked actually was). Then him and a few of his friend drive off in their jeep - I'm not giving in that easily.

I ring home again and my Dad says he's on his way. I sprint off in pursuit of the men and meet up with my Dad and brother a field across from the wood - the jeep is still in view so we chase desperately after it. Thankfully after chasing them for a mile or so along a country lane, we find them in a yard and my Dad confronts them about everything. Of course, the arrogant idiot refuses to take any blame for it.

When I got home, I found that Tim had managed to limp back to the house. He's obviously in some pain still and I've yet to find out if my phone contract will cover this damage. It's certainly not been one of my good days (probably one of the worst days I've had in a long time). Let's just hope and pray nothing more goes wrong...

Wow. Well, I certainly hope that you and your dogs are OK; that is the most important thing.

Don't know what they do in the UK, but here a dog that attacks people and animals unprovoked is put down, and the owner is at least scrutinized to see if there's a pattern in his handling of animals. No dog is by nature mean, no matter the breed; they have to be made that way. And you don't have to make a dog mean for hunting purposes. That would actually be counterproductive. I kinda wish they'd put down the owners who abuse the dogs.

I too hope you & your dog are okay. Sounds like a crappy day. There's not too many honest people out there when it comes to taking blame and responsibility for their animals. I have a huge scar on my hand and had a pretty long recovery time to prove that one. You're very lucky it wasn't worse.

Like Tim said, not sure how it is over there but here to get 'damages' (money for your phone, bills and whatnot) in civil court your 'damages' must cost in excess of $500.00. Animals are put down and owners are held liable.

Hope it goes better for ya!

Did all that happen in just one day? The guys just drove off, like they were seriously guilty of something? That sounds kind of suspicious.

And don't worry about the women, they pretty much all suck, Dan. Remember that they're most like out to just use and manipulate you and.... Oh wait, I think you already know how I feel about that situation .

Yep that happened in one day. The girl thing got me down in the first place (last night) - I was meant to see her during this theatrical performance she was doing but I had to leave early and her boyfriend was there so I barely spoke to her at all. I had been looking forward to it for ages (plus she's always really busy with exams and stuff). Anyway, I'm sure things will get better soon! Lol.

That sucks, dude. I love dogs, but I've also been the victim of an unprovoked animal attack myself when I was 10. My neighbors got the bright idea to buy a German shepherd from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police...the only problem with that theory is that the Mounties only get rid of the dogs they couldn't train. In Rambo's case (no exaggeration...Rambo was his name), he was trained as an attack dog. The only problem is that he'd attack anyone other than those he considered his masters at any time without warning.

I happened to be walking down the street across from his house when he broke his chain and attacked me. I never looked at the dog, barely noticed he was there, never provoked him or anything. This was a full-grown German shepherd (about 85-90 pounds), and I was a smallish 10-year-old (maybe 60), so I did the only thing I could think of to do...hoofed him one in the jewels. Had three different neighbors not seen the attack and pulled the dog away in the few seconds where I had backed him down, I probably would have been killed. As it is, there's a weird series of bumps on the top of my left ear to remind me of what happened.

The stupid thing is that, because my parents never pressed charges (for some bizarre reason, they figured I had provoked the dog even though I wasn't within 50 feet of him at any time before he broke his chain AND the neighbors all said I didn't do anything), the dog was never quarantined and put down. Unfortunately, four years later another German shepherd named Rocky who lived nearby lost his life protecting his mistress as best as he could (the mistress herself was ripped open for 16 stitches in her leg), and to this day I blame my parents for not having pressed charges on my behalf. They wouldn't even let me testify at the quarantine hearing or whatever it is that they call it.

Moral of the story: go after the owner of the dog. If your dog was attacked, sooner or later someone or something else will be...and the results could be much worse. Some people are idiots, and should not own animals.

Hope all is better now.

Sounds like an average day to me. Save your whining for more seriously sucky days, because things could always be much worse.

Dan, I hope your day is better today. I'm glad you and Tim are okay. Bad days always suck, but that is why we appreciate good days even more The sun will shine again.
