Back to the question at hand, I don't have any software installed on my laptop that would tell me my Alexa rank.

You don't need to have Alexa installed.
Just go to http://alexa.com/data/details/traffi...nge=3m&y=t&z=r
(but replace amray.com with your domain) and check how this Alexa ranks you

496,279 for ecsuite, not bad for being at 1.3mil about 5-6 months ago when we launched the brandname, our sister companies are 170k, and 1300.

Yes, I improved by 300k...to 2.7 million, lol.
And I don't know a whole lot, but if advertising networks use it to help determine prices, then I would say it could be important (depending on what ad network you use), even if it isn't really very accurate.
I know until I made a post about it almost none of my visitors had some form of alexa installed, so that is why my rating was (is) so bad.
