Can anyone tell me what the deal is with getting stuff sent form your site with a load of junk in the form fields.

I got a couple of "enquiries" through with a load of junk on them '&%$$^%$'
and that sort of thing, didn;t go through it all but I am guessing it was spam or something - kept getting them through for a few days (my new site wont allow this sort of thing but its not up yet.

Does it hurt rankiongs? does it get people off? what s the point of it? is it spammers spreading a virus??

Can anyone shed any light ?

as for ranking - i guess the comments are far from being on topic so probably no good

I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't know what the question is, let alone the answer. Could you give a more specific example of what's going on? That'll help me, or someone else if not me, give you a better ansewr, or one at all.

I kept getting form emails through with thing like

The question is does this hurt my site, rankings or anything or is it just timewasting spam.

I should add that I was ranking in the top 3 or 4 for very common search terms on yahoo.co.uk which are way, way down (150+ on rankings)

There were more with wierder stuff which I have totally deleted so cant past example but as far as the stuff above goes...Is this is to hurt the site / ranknings and can I fix it or combat it?

If someone's submitted that through your form, it could just be plain spam trying to avoid the junk mail folder by using symbols instead of letters, or it could be some form of hacking i.e. SQL injection. It's hard to tell though - if you gave us an actual example and explained a bit further, then maybe we could help.

EDIT (as you just posted before me): that is just spam, and a very common type - "medical" pills of one form or other like viagra and other junk!

Ignore it - and no it won't harm your rankings.
