I have a Cannon that was like $400. It's pretty cool, though it's not good for like speed shots and that a sort of thing.

What are speed shots? I've never really gotten into the camera details really. but i'd like to. I am a designer and photography plays a large part in what I do. Often find myself doing stock images, but I'd like to take my own.

The Canon PowerShot A420 is a great camera at a great price:

It is only $179.99

http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/cano...0-reviews.html

Let me know what you think. It has 4 megapixels, which is really good for something in this price range. Anything over 3 will be exceptionally crisp for web purposes. For high-end printing you will want to upgrade to at least a 6.

Good luck with your purchase!

All cameras have limitations as the price point gets cheaper. The key is to find a camera that still generally meets your usage requirements.

Now, that being said, what are the usage requirements?

I use a Canon Powershot SD 500 (I believe) which I have been very happy with.

http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/cano...0-reviews.html

The SD 700 appears to be the newest version out.

I think I paid about $375 for the camera which was a good deal I think.

Every review I read was positive about this line.

Let us know what you get!

I am extremely proud of my Canon Powershot S2 IS 5MP the 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom is more than amazing. I was in St. Louis this past weekend, at the top of the Arch, 634 feet high, and was able to zoom into Busch Stadium and take pictures of the batters taking batting practice. AWESOME!

Canon's are definately the way to go for mainstream photographers. They are decently price and their performance is outstanding. I have tha A90, and I haven't had any malfunctions or complaints about it. (My uncle also has an A90, and my cousin has an A75.)

One thing to look for when buying cameras is to make sure they take AA batteries and not battery packs. The drawbacks of having a battery pack is that if you want to buy another one, it will cost you quite a bit more than buying high performance (2000 mAh+) rechargeables. Otherwise you are stuck with one, and when it dies, you can't take any photos until you recharge.
