Has anyone changed over their forum from phpbb to vbulletin?

Is it dificult to keep all topics user etc..? anyone that has done this please provide some input.

As Vbulletin seems to be the more secure way to go.... also seems to have more goodies and tools that appear to be easier to setup etc..

I have only used vbulletin, but I do know of some threads made at vbulletin.org that are very similar to what you asked. Thats the only one I can find so far will edit when I find some more.

It's super easy, I did it long time ago with a super hacked phpbb board.

Yep, I've done it on a number of occasions. Jelsoft has done an excellent job of making it easy to switch from competing products. I swear by vBulletin, have a dozen licenses, and can't say enough good about Jelsoft's support.

The conversion itself is fairly simple if you're even a little bit experienced with forums. Jelsoft can help walk you through it too if you open up a ticket. If you have an active forum, you'll want to decide on a low-activity time to do it, give the community a fair warning, then go at it. I usually just take the site down when I'm doing it, but that's your choice. You don't want to be converting a live database though.

Make a backup of the database before starting, and double check you have the backup secure. Nothing worse than getting half through a procedure like this and having a glitch and needing a backup only to find the backup was corrupted.

There's always a few funky things to work out, depending on how you used phpBB, what mods and hacks you had done to the old forum, and so on. The conversion can also be a time consuming procedure, particularly if you have a large database. Set aside more time than you think you'd need, and start out when fresh.

Good luck with it!

The conversion is very easy (as already stated)...if you can't figure it out after your first attempt, then you could either ask at vB.com or submit a ticket to Jelsoft...you would be able to do it then.

I was initially apprehensive, but it was no big deal at all to convert.
