I never submit to search directories (maybe once or twice just to support a friend). I do my content the way I want, however I want. I hardly do it with "SEO" in mind. Search engines will build it up and track it when they want, and however they want, and the results work very well for me doing this method.
I hardly exchange links. As a matter of fact I don't remember when I bought a link anywhere. My PR 5 was natural, and came out of no where, and I still maintained it after 2 PR updates...
My alexa ranking peaked at 70,000. I believe in advertising over SEO if I were to do either of the two.
My reason? I find it unethetical to do so. I understand my viewpoints may be ignorant, but its a personal thing, and there shouldn't be any debate about it - its how I feel, and its how it will end up being on my sites.
