Do you have a laptop?

I have a Toshiba Satellite m65 and I am very satisfied with it. My parents purchased it for me last year and I have found I am very productive in a different environment rather then sitting in my regular workspace. Is this the same for some of you guys that have laptops? I may drive over to Starbucks sometime in the morning to see how productive I am there. At the moment i'm actually relaxing out on my back deck browsing Earners Forum with my favorite cup of java. :001_rolleyes:

Yea, my primary computer right now is a Inspiron 9300. It's about a year old now, though, so I'm thinking of getting something newer. I did pimp it out a bit, got the highest video it offered, maxed out the ram, put in a 7200 rpm hard drive, etc. I'm just debating whether to wait until MS's new os is out. Could be too long.

Sounds pretty nice. Haven't pimped mine out yet, has average processing speed with 512 mb or ram. I would say the 17" and karman/kardon sound system makes up for it. It's a great laptop but in a couple of months I may just find something alittle more portable with a smaller screen of 15" rather then the 17" I got now.

I have one that was brand new in 2002
It is good for surfing the internet now, that is about it. I do think my next computer purchase for business may be a laptop, rather than a desktop. Dont get me wrong. I love the desktop, but being portable definately has it's benefits.

I recently got mine, and I have always wanted to have one.
Now that I have it I do not use my desktops as much, since it is so nice to work with.

Yeah, my main computer (and only one I own) is a laptop.
I want to build my own desktop computer soon though.

I have an IBM ThinkPad T41, which I initially bought to use on my daily train rides to Los Angeles. It's pretty cool, though I've had more than a fair share of problems with it (and certainly more than the ThinkPad's good reputation ought to allow haha). I think I got a bit of a lemon but was always too nice to demand a replacement and gave them too many chances to make it right.... and the switch to Lenovo hasn't helped. I've had to send it in 4-5 times in the last 2 years, and every time it comes back they either did nothing at all, or broke something else haha (I consider myself a very experienced computer user - I usually build my own and can fix almost anything, so I'm sure it's the laptop not me haha).
I'm switching to Mac soon anyhow, so my next laptop will be a MacBook Pro (17" since I find the screen real estate a must-have). While at home I'll use it hooked up to a 17" LCD for a great dual screen setup And while on the road I'll always have sufficient room to work in Photoshop.

Nice, I think I may go with a MacBook Pro for my next laptop aswell. I'm going to have to go with the 15" instead of the 17" model simply because I want something alittle more portable now.

I wish I had one but I'm kinda broke. I download of stuff as well, so I need a good one as well, not any cheap laptop.

Yeah the 17" is definitely a bit big for some people... I personally find it to be acceptable, at least Apple's 17" versus others (I think it's still pretty light - 6.8 lbs - compared to other laptops in its size category... that's only about 2+ lbs more than my ThinkPad... I'm buff -not really- I can handle it haha)... I believe some similar spec Dell laptops are as much as 8-9 lbs, or nearly 10lbs with the typical oversized power block.
I probably wouldn't want many PC laptop's that big though - in my experience they tend to be a lot bulkier and heavier (and often louder) than the Powerbook/MacBook Pro. I usually carry laptops in a nice laptop backpack, so size/weight is a bit less of an issue.
I often hear people mention the price being high.... this tends to be more true with the desktops than the notebooks (though on the other hand a cheaper PC desktop isn't built nearly as well). For notebooks though... a PC with similar specs tends to cost about the same. For instance, I just configured a Dell XPS M1710 with nearly identical specs, added upgrades to match what the MacBook has, and the price was over $3100. The only thing better in the Dell was a faster graphics card (and mind you, this thing is 10lbs, looks a bit ugly in my opinion, and knowing Dell, is probably quite loud). I thought it was kinda funny - on Dell's product page, they show "Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0" as if it were some special included software hehe
Peace.

I have a Toshiba Satellite that I have been very happy with - about 8 months using it now.
I use it for my day job and all my site work as well.
I wish I would have gone for the larger screen - but I will get it next time.
