Hey EF. As you all know I am having a layout create for my Zelda website Hyrulian Legends. I am spending a pretty good amount on it and would like to know what I can do to improve it. It's definitely not looking like the amount of money I paid for and there are a few things I could change to make it look better. I also want to add some things to it, just not sure what.

If anyone could help me out, that'd be great.

Its pretty dull, and is probaly worth around $20 maybe i think you need a whole new template because i have no ideas for this.

Just curious, how much did you spend on that layout? If your not the designer, I suggest hiring someone else. I know two designers who could probaly make you a nice zelda layout for around $100, I can PM you there sites / email addresses if you want.

He is changing it all around. Just keep checking the link and you will see it. I am spending $500.00 on this layout and he won't get the full amount until I like it! I have all of you here to help me too and I appreciate it!

There are plenty of better and free web templates available at www.oswd.org That's where I get most of mine from. (It's not my site by the way.)

That's the thing. I don't want other people using my layout, that's why I am getting a custom one from this designer. It's not done yet. Once it is it will look a lot different. He is customizing a CMS, adding a new feature, and a lot more.

At this moment in time mate, the design doesn't seem to be worth $50, let alone $500.

Hire a professional designer who knows what they are doing. You can get a lot more for a lot less.

How about some original content? (Walkthroughs, screenshots, downloads, fan fiction, artwork, etc..)

What is your budget, how much have you paid over at the moment and what do you actually want to do?

My budget is 500.00. I sent the guy half first and he isn't getting the other half until it's finished and to my liking.

Yes I did. He made www.ZeldaDungeon.net which is pretty good in my opinion. He also owns zeldac.ganonstower.com .

Neither of those sites have designs worth >$100 IMO.

You should have held a contest on SP to get value for your money.

Yeah, I was thinking the same.

There basically just the same with a different colour and orientation.

I should have but I wanted someone who knew Zelda very well and this designer did.

I guess you have to learn a lesson and I hope the site gets a lot better.

Looking at that site doesn't really tell me that the designer knows alot about Zelda.. or design for that matter.

Don't count on that, he's probably not going to change it completly in the last minute.

If you can, try to get the $250 back and start a contest like Indy suggested.

Well I want something similar to Zelda Elements.. I mean obviously not copied, but that's a great site in my eyes. Starting a contest is a good idea, but this guy is smart, he really is, so I am going to see what he can do.

-JJ-, if you can, you should get a refund of your $250 immediately! This type of design isn't worth your money, you're getting ripped off. The design you're getting is probably worth $30 or less.

Going with a guy that's already done 2 Zelda sites (which are subpar as it is...) is a bad move in my opinion. You really need someone with a fresh outlook on the subject. This designer is clearly tired.
