Securely?

Implement a reverse proxy providing an SSL tunnel at the edge, a hard token authentication server which goes and verifies your login. Don't forget a client hardware authentication certificate exchange.

Depending on your configuration, GotoMyPC or Webex with the two factor authentication (SMS text of a PIN to your cell), or a something using SSH. I have all three work quite well.

What is your budget? What kind of servers will you be accessing? What kind of machines are you accessing the servers from? What are you planning to do on the connection? What kind of bandwidth will you have available?

There are so many variables without knowing your server and uses it is hard to narrow the field. Can you give a bit more?

Set up remote desktop; it's built into Windows XP; so most PC's will have it. If not you can download a client for '98 I believe.

Google is your friend

Windows Remote PC is available for computers running XP Pro. The cool thing about it is that you can access it through your PocketPC's "Terminal Services" program (preinstalled on ones running Windows Mobile). Another solution is to use VNC.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that by default, XP will only allow one connection at a time so if you would want to connect remotely, you would get logged off on your computer. I found the link to the hack to remove the 1 connection limit: http://www.golod.com/2005/10/enablin...-edition-2005/

Check out www.logmein.com - it's encrypted and it's free for the basic plan. I use it to access my servers at my office when I'm at home (just remote control) but the pro plan lets you share files, printers, all kinds of stuff.

I use Remote Desktop and LogMeIn. I like RemoteDesktop better.

Biggest pain is file transferring niehter service allows for that easily (I think the paid version of LogMeIn might).

We actually have set it up so we use LogMeIn for some workers we have in China, pretty smooth.

not much actually, it's easy to use program, you just add an account, username and pass, set permissions, and click connect button, then it gives your IP address you can connect ftp to...

Get Access Remote PC. I use that on my laptop & desktop to remotely control either one respectively, it has a file sharing feature thats very fast, and a simple interface.

Also, if your on a router, it will have the other networked computers on a drop-down menu list of PC's to connect to.
