Personal Account:

Send money
24-hour fraud surveillance
Customer Service availability
eBay Tools Limited
Merchant Services Limited

Premier Account:

Above applies plus;

eBay Tools
Merchant Services

Business Account:

Above applies plus;

Accept credit or debit cards
PayPal ATM/Debit Card
Multi-user access

------------------------------

PayPal allows members to have one Personal account and one Premier or Business account. However, each PayPal account must contain unique email addresses and financial information. Afterwards, you may upgrade your account at any time. [courtesy of paypal.com]

Why use Paypal:
  • Faster than sending checks or money orders
  • Industry-leading fraud prevention helps keep you safe
  • Financial information is kept private and secure
  • eBay Tools and Merchant Tools are free to use
  • Accepted on eBay and merchant websites
  • Payments can be made locally or in 55 countries and regions worldwide
My overlook:

Personally, i enjoy paypal and it has served me well throughtout my year and some change with them, however if you do some suspicious activity they will lock your account up with minor accessibility and its hella hard to get it unlocked.

The only downfall i see, maybe is the account activity because it logs IP, so if you login from a different location, it sends you an email of suspicious activity. Nonetheless, i like paypal.

* Is the error my doings? or Paypal's?

I use PayPal in my store. I haven't had any problems with them. But I have heard of people being locked out for whatever reason, (usually something suspicious that they don't allow you to do) freezing up large sums of money, so I always keep my balance low, just in case, altho it's never happened to me. I find it a very handy way to transfer funds to my bank account.

Some people say it's unprofessional looking and marks you as an amateur, but I am satisfied with the level of sales I get.

It's a good option for people who don't want to layout a large sum or be locked into a contract to process credit cards from one of the big well known processors, or don't have good enough credit to qualify to get credit card processing from their bank.

You can create payment buttons for specific products from within your PayPal interface (a good way to go if you only have a few products) or you can use their API to integrate it into many of the catalog systems, including some available for free thru Open Source. That's how I use it.

If you are going to do business on the internet, you MUST take credit cards or bank transfers somehow, as 90% of shoppers want to pay this way. PayPal is a very cheap way to enter that market and test whether your product is going to sell.

All the credit card processors take a percentage for their fee, unless you already have really stellar credit and do large volumes of sales, I think PayPal is about in line with most of them.

PayPal are known to screw a lot of people over.. me included. Although it's only a few hundred, nothing too big. I never keep large sums of money in my PayPal anymore either, everything is transferred straight to the bank account.

I use Paypal quite a bit. I use a non-premium account to receive money, but use my premium account to send money. That way I don't lose more money from fees.

yeah... but that's only a very small percentage to the amount of money that you actually receive.. and if you are smart... you get the buyer to pay paypal fees
