Anyone reads this in their WSJ yesterday?

I love how their "Top Earners" brought in $30,000. Um, that's not a lot of money people... (well it is, but there is a lot more money than that being made)

I would copy and paste, but I can't post URLs yet, and there are a million in the article. It's an interesting read, and I am sure that it's totally fascinating to anyone not doing business online.

Laura

(PS. I will try to post it once I hit 15 posts.)

I'll post it for you:

On the popular Web site MySpace.com, members set up profiles with information about their interests and then network across the site, recruiting other members to link to their pages. Often, the teens and 20-somethings who dominate the site have dozens or hundreds of these registered "friends."

Then there's Christine Dolce, whose MySpace page boasts nearly one million friends -- making her arguably one of the most connected people on the Internet. A 24-year-old cosmetologist who until a few months ago worked at a makeup counter in a mall, she now has a manager and a start-up jeans company and has won promotional deals for two mainstream consumer brands.

Thank you. I will post the whole thing in case anyone wants to read it since it won't be free as of tomorrow (or some time soon).

All just a bunch of hot air. The story hardley warents mention from a source as 'reputable' as the WSJ. Maybe Wired or some crap like that but not WSJ. Dammit it is full feature story, too.Wish I hadn't clicked the links.

I respectfully disagree. MySpace is big business, anyone who can't see that has their eyes closed and is potentially missing a big trend that could make you very rich. MySpace is making a lot of millionaires. It is because of MySpace, for example, that YouTube has recently become one of the top 5 most visited sites on the web (according to some stats)--and has taken in millions in VC money. The same can be said for companies like RockYou, Slide, ImageShack, Photobucket, etc. Without MySpace, a lot of these sites either wouldn't exist or wouldn't be the behemoths they have become raking in ad dollars, subscription dollars, and venture capital.

As the article shows, even ordinary people are starting to make a living by promoting themselves as a brand through MySpace.

With $10,000, a few catchy designs, and a MySpace profile, anyone could probably make a killing with a botique t-shirt business. Which leads me to the point that MySpace is a very powerful tool for serious business if you know how to apply it.
