They took my domain!

So I was seaching via namecheap, godaddy, and iwebtool's domain lookup function. It turns out that the day I searched it, some company nabbed the name! (and I was planning to register it)
It's a very brandable name that I needed for the website I was going to start. I can't think of any nearly as good now.
Really watch out when you look up domains!

I've heard of this happening, but it has never happened to me.

I stopped using Godaddy to search for this very reason.
Usually, you have about 24 hrs, before someone gets the search database and registers domains.
Next time, just be prepared to register it as soon as you find it.

I know the feeling, I wanted to buy a domain and a few days later it was taken.
Funny thing is, I don't use the search engine from a registrar, I usually use whois.org.

you mean it's possible to look through the search registry? That's absurd. I've been searching for great domain names. and some were available. i just didn't have time to purchase yet :taz:

Keep thinking that. No, everybody does not have access to searches but they are available.

idotz.net, don't use 3rd tier domain strars. Stick to Enom, Moniker, idotz, and godaddy. I have not had anything like that happen with godaddy.

stay away from registrar that logs your domain whois searches for their own benefit and charge others for the access of it.

I think this has happened to me before. That's why, if I'm searching for a new domain, I look it up at one place...and only one place. Not trying to show too much interest if someone is recording my searches.

Yeah, never happened to me lol but I remember watching stuff.com go past its expire date and wasn't available to be reg'd even when it was supposed to of expired weeks ago!
That pisses me off, no one can reg a good domain because all the large companies has a hold on them!
I just use lcn.biz to search for domains and godaddy to reg em

That happened to me with curetone.com/net/org
Anyways, yesterday it almost happened to me. I was about to buy a domain and my credit card wasn't working, and I was afraid that they would buy it, but luckily they didn't.

I have heard of a "thing" called DomiBot that in someway searches like GoDaddy.com and automatticly register domains, but what I have been told they often release the domains again after a while.
If this is true I do not know, but its **** scary anyway.

Yeah. I think it's pretty crafty of people to do stuff like this...
I simply use www.iwebtool.com/instant

I have head of this sort of thing a few times over the years, and one or two instances where the cheeky gits emailed the people offering the domain (they searched for) for upwards of £100.
That said, if is a good name (and not too niche) it is just as likely someone else come up with the same name at the same time and grabbed it. I'm not very good at it as I lack the patience but I know of domain speculators making SERIOUS money buying and selling, or even buying and parking with Sedo. Take a look at [ namepros.com ] for a wealth of information on domain name speculations.

I can't tell, since the name is pretty self explanatory, and would give away what kind of site I'm making.
