Putting a pet to sleep...

Has anyone ever had the unfortunate situation in which they had to choose between putting their pet to sleep, or letting it die a natural death (which in some cases, could be painful?).

I had to put my dog down today and it was one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do. We got the dog when I was 7 (I am now 19), and she had heart failure two times in one week, along with fluid and other things in her organs.

We had to make the choice of spending the last few hours with her, making her happy, and dieing together as a family and in peace...or letting her stay at home by her self, and one day, submitting to a painful seizure in which she would not survive...alone, in pain, and scared.

I hadn't lived with my dog for the last 8 years (she lived with my sister), but we came to visit once a month, and she's the cutest thing I've ever seen.

Today was a difficult time, and I'm curious if anyone else has ever been in my situation before (I know there has been, but just seeing if anyone around here has experienced this).

Oh Brian, that must be so hard. I never had to put a pet to sleep, but I can hardly imagine the pain.

Sorry man.

I've been in the same situation, except it was with a cat. Well actually it has been with 2 pets

Our cat was very old, very very old. She was coming on like 20 years and was throwing up all over the verandah. Was actually quite disgusting, but we had to put the cat down.

Our dog was only 2-3 weeks old when it was diagnosed with a fatal disease that only happens to new born puppies. We had to have it put down as well, really sad too see this little cute ball of fluff go
