Yep it's the big news right about now. I blogged about it here:

So what do you think about this?

I think that search engine logs should be given to the government! Why should you care if your searches are being logged, you shouldn't have any problem unless you're searching for something bad.

Are you serious? That is a grievous violation of civil rights. In a country like the United States, your searches should be part of the private domain, something that cannot be released without a whole lot of authorization.

I don't mind the government having my search logs. I have nothing to loose with anyone seeing my search logs.

Now if you search for illegal/inappropriate keywords, then of course you'd have a problem with this.

That's not the point. You don't do anything illegal in your house, but how about we just setup random entries on any day at any time for the govt to come in a search you.

We have certain rights, and those should be protected.

I was having a look through some of the data after I preprocessed it earlier. Some interesting stuff - I plan to do some more analysis at some point soon in an attempt to identify some interestin niches

AOL tried to retract this information by the way - they've removed it from their site etc. Its out now though!

Exactly my plans. This data might turn out to be of value. Now if I can find a way to filter out all the evil search queries...

It is of much value to those that know how to use it and can make sense of it all.

I played around with the web site that allows you to search it. I have it downloaded as well.

Very interesting info
