Hi,

Well I got a laptop keyboard a while ago for a very good price, since then, my wonderful girl friend decided it was thirsty and poured a glass of orange juice over the keyboard :taz:

I've had the laptop apart to clean up the mess but a lot of the keys are not working after I've mopped up the juice, can anyone offer some suggestions on how to get it cleaned up?

as a note I cannot take it back as it was bought in US (I live in Canary Islands) and new keyboard is going to be impossible to get over here as there are no PC shops which will have spares

JP

p.s it's a compaq V2000

Ok on further looking it's the connection between the actual key and the sensor so I think it's buggered, so anyone know where I can buy a laptop keyboard? (also a place that can deliver to the canaries which will no doubt be no where)

I did something similar in my car. I spilled sweetened tea all over the control buttons for the navigation system. It was very sticky, and the buttons weren't working so I couldn't use the Nav/phone/music/etc system in my car.

I took a chance and used water where the tea was spilled, then used a can of compressed air to dry all of the surfaces. After a few tries of this, it removed all of the sticky substance and everything now works as it should.

I don't know about a laptop though...I would make sure it is unplugged and the battery is removed before I did anything to it! Not sure if this technique will work, or if you could possibly make your situtation worse.

Yeah the USB keyboard was going to be the quick fix, but in doing that the portibale laptop becomes a normal PC really.

Oddly (remembered this yesterday), a friend on the next complex has the next model up of this laptop and dropped a chair on it a few weeks back and funny enough broke the screen and HD stopped working, so waiting for him to come back off holiday and going to ask nicely to rip his apart and get some spare parts

I love my BENQ A-122 keyboard. (USB) It has the same "feel" as a laptop and enables me to type much faster without making mi$t7ak2s.
