I am sorry to be newbish but I don't know if something big happened in the two weeks I was on vacation or what but could someone please explain to me what the web 2.0 movement is ?

I keep seeing this too. I thought it was just the new style of design (ie using more css) that look like this forum and wickedfire, but I read something on digitalpoint that referred to ajax and java for sites.

I'm so confused.

It's basically user generated content that centers around conversation/community. (kinda)

Examples would be

digg.com
del.icio.us
flickr.com

Blogs were probably the earliest incarnation of w2.0

So basically it is just saying that instead of getting information from a search engine looking through big websites with lots of information , the new way is to get info from a community like wikipedia?

oops can't post links yet. Search for web 2.0 on wikipedia. I think it explains it pretty well.

Should have looked there first I guess.

I thought Web 2.0 was more of a programming thing than a type of site. It seems like Ajax is always brought up in the same conversations as Web 2.0. Hmmm...
