It has surprised me how many directory owners there are out there.

Running a free directory, can it be profitable?

If so, what methods do you use to make your directory profitable?

I'd imagine most of them make a profit from selling links (for PR) on them.

Of course we make money

.. selling paid links is the best choice.

To make it profitable, you should:

- build traffic
- get backlinks
- good PR

etc. the list goes on..

There are forums dedicated to directory discussions ( like mine - www.directoriesforum.com , shamless plug :smartass: )

my directory is running very steady now, i just make money with adsense

enough indexed pages and a pr5-6 should do the trick..
