What would you do with $50k?

A very open ended question...

What would you do with $50,000 if you had the cash to spend on your business (don't tell me you would pay your credit card bill...)?

Would you actively pursue buying established sites? (Is there a marketplace out there to buy GOOD developed sites? I never see much on Sitepoint, et al, that are well established.)

Would you develop new sites?

Would you invest in other peoples' projects as a VC?

Would you put that towards promotion of current sites?

Just curious,
Laura

Is the condition to stick to the web industry? If not I would look into real estate.

I'd look into purchasing more established forums.

Its much easier than developing new forums.

I would invest about $2k in my new site (which i wont plug) and probably keep the rest for future projects (Maybe buy an established forum to go with it).

Buy a huge forum, it gives you so much power for other projects.

Also $50k over here would get you nothing in real estate.

Aren't I always serious? You know how to reach me...

While $50k couldn't buy you much real estate outright, the beauty of real estate is that you can really leverage your money. I think that if you have a large sum in hand, it can be confusing how to spend it. What's the best way to earn a return on that money online? How much risk are you willing to take? That's why I think it is interesting to see what other people would do. Plus, I am sure most would act differently if they were gifted $50k versus actually earning every last penny themselves. (Ever done research on lottery winners? Very interesting stuff.)

For me, I think I would buy established sites. Having built a few sites from scratch, I can completely appreciate trading that upfront grunt work for some extra cash. (Unless, of course, what I want hasn't been developed yet.)

Reinvest it back into several business ventures. $50,000 is not a lot of money

"A lot" is relative, but $50k can quickly be turned into $100k in the right investment.

With 50k? Hmz. I would buy some really nice established websites. Or use it to launch major marketing campaigns for my forum and websites.

Depends on what you already have, I guess.

Putting the money in a bank and living on interest sounds tempting.

On the other hand, investing the whole lot into a website to create unique content would be interesting. $50k in content..that'd be what, about 1k average articles or 200 top quality articles? Not too bad.

I would split it...$10,000 would go towards current and on-going projects, while the other $40,000 would start up my dream projects...one by one, until I do all on my list.
