Here's a couple of Google seaches I've used in the past.

1. The number of website clone requests on rentacoder.com

2. The number of web directories that use a popular php directory script.

I'd be interested to see searches by other earners....

Whenever I am about to purchase a new script, I check how many sites turn up in Google :P

I also use site: and link: a lot. Otherwise, nothing really, just pay people for my directory submission

I do this too. I also perform "sucks" searches, which are helpful too.

Basically, you search for "____ sucks" and see how many results come up. You generally need to use quotes for this search though.

I've avoided some potentially bad decisions by doing that search. Also ended up finding better options from reading the replies from people recommending alternate scripts, websites, etc.
