Another story that belittles the working class. Escuse me for being a working stiff and not having a facebook account. They can all **** themselves.

Ummm, what?

Interesting news article, $1,000,000,000 is too much money for Facebook, but I guess Yahoo! see's more potential in it..

MySpace and YouTube aren't even publicly traded companies...or am I missing something?

Well, MySpace is owned by News Corporation (parent company of Fox News), which acquired it for around $560 million in 2004.

The only real "basis" for the $1 billion price tag for Facebook is Google's recent $900 million advertising deal with Myspace. Other than that, Facebook has roughly one-tenth of Myspace's user base and one-eighth the traffic, though some argue that college students are better "targets" for advertisers.

MySpace is full of 10 years olds who put the wrong age in when they signed up.

(Ok, not EVERYBODY, but I'm sure you have seen the types I am talking about)

Facebook seems to be much more organized with a much better target demographics. Sure it's not nearly as big as MySpace, but the traffic is higher quality. (Still not worth more than MySpace though, but in the end I'm sure they will come out ahead)

however, monetizing facebook won't be easy. In many ways it is just as difficult as myspace. But possibly even harder.

The demographic for facebook sucks. Facebook users are a cynical/skeptical bunch and being college students they are often short on cash, thus they are freebie hunters.

The ideal demographic is the 40+ year old crowd with more disposable income who are ready to settle down.

Yahoo wont break even on this should they continue with the deal. I hope not though.

or Geocities?

or Oddsock?

Yahoo is an acquisition company and Facebook is the next biggest independent Social Networking Site.

It's really starting to feel like the dotcom bubble days again. Lot's of silly money being thrown around. Even Lee mentioned something about how crazy some of his forum sales have been going in terms of months times revenue.

well from my understanding is if they buy it, it wont be for students only which would lose its purpose and just become mypace.. i would say they don't sell but work out an advetising deal.

Facebook, myspace, youtuuuuube, digggggggg are the big sociasl networking type sites. They will all be bought out before 2008 and makign the founders very wealthy and happy. Then we can put to rest all this web2o nonsense and speculation. Thank GOD.
