A study commissioned by Apple concluded that employees are up to 65% more productive on certain tasks when they have a 30" monitor than when they have a 17" or 19".

Critics of the study say that the numbers seem high and that a dual-monitor setup is just as effective as 30" Apple display, but not nearly as expensive.

I've been working off of a 15.4" notebook screen alone for the past few weeks, and things definitely get cluttered. Those results seem extreme though.

Sounds like a good excuse to get that second 19" monitor I've wanted for a while

I think two 20" widescreen displays are good setup for almost anyone. If you really need 30" ACD's *HUGE* resolution, then go for it. Now you can get LG 204WT for $299 if I remember correctly. That's under $600 for two 20" widescreen displays. I have older model 203WT and this is great

Yeah, I don't think it is entirely true. I find that I work the same with two monitors than with one. Or maybe even worse with two monitors as I get distracted with things on both monitors

17" LG710S feels comfortable enough. My preferred resolution: 1280x1024.

1600x1200 anyone ?

Having a dual monitor setup greatly improved my computing productivity, but I'd stay away from that 30" monster. I like the duals because there was a sense of moderate seperation between them. On one monitor I had email, IM, etc, and on the other I had photoshop, dreamweaver, and my blogging software.

I'd say that I was way more productive when I didn't have to alt-tab through a ton of applications to get to what I wanted.

I've got a 42" LCD television that I use as a dual setup once in a while for family video events and such, but I've never used anything more then one screen for work.

I prefer laptops as well. A 15 inch screen is big enough for me anyway.

If you do graphic desig or video a huge screen would be helpful though.

Dual monitors is great for programming! I can't go back. I would definitely choose them over a larger single monitor Graphics is another story, though.

haven't worked with duals of same size but definitely loving my 22" widescreen samsung hooked up to the 15" laptop! the less I have to scroll up and down and left to right, the more productive i am. i keep what i'm working on the 22" (dreamweaver, photoshop) and have the "distracting" applications on the 15" (email, IM)

My wife loves her new 30" Apple Cinema display.

I'm still struggling along with my old 24" Sony CRT.
