Is there an honest way to purchase an older version of photoshop? I was thinking about purchasing his and seeing if I could learn it in my spare time for making some images for various websites.

Never had looked into purchasing it before, then see that it is $650 for the full version? and upgraded versions to get the big creative suites that have everything is as high as $1200. Wasn't expecting it to be that expensive.

I don't mind spending the money on it if I know I will be able to learn it and use it, but definately didn't expect it to be that expensive.

man, that's sooooo expensive! find a good friend who could just share it with you since you'll just use it during your spare time.

I recommend Gimp or Paint [not the paint that comes with windows]. They're both free.

I haven't, but I know it's possible. I saw some forum where people used Gimp to do awesome things.

Photoshop has a 30 day trial anyway.

I would recommend the total training http://www.totaltraining.com/home.asp videos as the best way to get up to speed. 30 days is enough to get through the training and decide if photoshop is for you.

I use gimp, I found it easier to understand than photoshop.

I'm no expert but many gimp users think it is superior to photoshop. It's definitely worth a look at least!

IMHO, Photoshop is the best photo manipulation program period. But GIMP comes in a very close second. And it's several hundred dollars less. And Gimp can open photoshop documents. And new versions are free.

Some examples of gimp artwork:
Google's logo (or at least the old one: http://web.archive.org/web/199902240.../stickers.html)
Gimp User Group Gallery (http://gug.sunsite.dk/gallery.php)
Deviantart tutorials for gimp (http://browse.deviantart.com/resourc...=9&alltime=yes)

Find a student or teacher and get them to buy you the educational version...usually goes for ~$250...

At my previous work I tried using gimp because my manager was cheap -- it just did not compare to photoshop. The graphics our consultants would send us would not for the life of them render correctly in gimp, fonts would look off, or colors would be different.

I would not recommend gimp. Adobe has edu discounts and probably a small business discount too.
