Motivational Tip: Fifty Cents

"Fifty Cents" is a small mental tool I use to motivate myself.

For every (good) page that I put on the Internet, I tell myself that I am going to make fifty cents.

Not fifty cents once, but fifty cents a day for the next 3-5 years.

Every time I complete a new page, I tell myself that. At the end of a good day, I tell myself that I have added $2/day to my web income.

That doesn't seem like much, until you do it for a few months or a few years. Then it starts to seem like quite a lot.

On those days when I feel like nothing I can do today will have any real effect, I remind myself of this simple formula and I set myself down to write just one page at a time.

Note: Your number may be $.25, or $1, or whatever. It doesn't really matter what the exact number is -- it matters that the numbers continue to add up every day that you work at building your web empire.

Not to rob you of motivation but have you ever calculated your page to visitor ratio? It should be the same as you add new pages.

I like the way you phrased it btw.

Well if you suppose to build ton of auto gen sites that is a good way of looking at it...

A new page wont make you 50 cents though unless there is something Im missing....

It would depend on the content. A product review or something that will be referenced for years to come could definitely be worth 50cents a day. Auto-gens are definitely worth a lot less than original content.

That's why I said "For every (good) page that I put on the Internet..."

If you are building low-quality content, your number might have to be $00.00000001.

If I write four pages in one day, I consider that a heavy work day.

Yes, and also my profit/page ratio.

Here are the rough numbers for the site I'm working on right now:

Approximately 20,000 unique visitors per day / 1,130 pages = 17.7 visitors per page per day

$565.84 AdSense revenue per day / 1,130 pages = $50.0743 per page per day.

Nahh... almost no one visits my SEO site. I think Google has selected that one for special punishment. :cursing:

At first look at the title Switch thought you meant the rapper... Silly him. Good motivational advice

And it's not going to, for some very good reasons:
  • SEO's are ad blind. I am not going to spend time marketing a site in a niche with CTR as awful as the SEO niche.
  • SEO is a very competitive niche. I'd rather compete in uncompetitive niches.
  • I do not make money as an SEO. I don't do SEO work. There is no real upside to my winning in the SEO-related SERPS.
I built the site for fun. I should sell it off to a professional SEO who will maintain and expand it in an effort to build his business, but the offers I've received have not been serious.

do you do anything special to drive visitors to those pages?

I would imagine making it and letting it sit for Google would pick it up well

Hi Will interesting analogy and thanks for sharing the numbers. I'd look more at your page views against revenue which works out at around 3 cents a visitor.

I believe your revenue would increase inline with this as the number of views go up but I doubt it's the same with the number of pages on your site.

At your level of earnings shouldn't you be paying for that extra content? If a busy day is only four pages you could have a chilled out day where you pay top dollar for an extra 10 pages.

Yes, this is true.

I buy as much content as I can. The issue that I run into is that I have significant difficulty finding content that meets my quality standards.
