The creator of the controversial social networking site, *****Space.com is selling the site for 100,000 dollars over at Sitepoint.com.

The site has been mentioned in many big name publications and was even mentioned in an interview between Glenn Beck and Al Sharpton a few weeks ago.

Its news about the internet. Just like any other site that gains this kind of publicity is news.

100k is rich for an 18 year old that started this with very little money invested into it.

Even if no one buys it the site can be monetized fairly well.

Meh its all hype though. Why would Al shapton care about some random site with the word '*****' in it expeically if it was made by an African American?

I'm surprised that just buying a phpfox script and putting a few adds on it can produce and turnaround profit of thousands... Oh well, I guess finding the market for users is the key.

I just want to say as the token "*****" here on EF that the concept behind this site is absolutely hilarious. I almost joined the site on principal alone

But back to reality, the guy said he only made $214 from adsense and adwords combined. I see 2 problems with this sale.

1) The site is hardly making enough money to justify 100k even with all the hype and publicity it's gotten.

2) The moment the site really starts to make money they will be sued by MySpace for both trademark and copyright infringement.

I see no copyright infringement. I don't think the use of "space" is a trademark infringement either.

Bah, I agree with Worldwebuser, this junk isn't news. I turned down a 150k offer for my site, so what? Is that news?

But are you 18? And is your site less then 1 month old?

However, let's not forget guys - the site hasn't even been sold, and I'd be very suprised if it received a bid over $50k.

50k?
You have to be joking.

If someone has 50k to spend on a site why would he buy some junk that is less than one month old?

The 90's are over

If you read, it says that I'd be very suprised if it even got a bid over $50k. Half of his BIN.

Thats like saying why would someone pay $50k for a make over or something. If people have the money and they want something, they will spend it. It just takes the right buyer to come along and buy it. Anything could happen.

Site makes only $200 a month and the social networking market is already oversaturated.

To webmasters yes. We already recognize that this market is saturated - but do teenagers and such know that? No. They see a social networking site that they like, and they'll join.

And the fact that the market is already too saturated, makes this even more valuable - because it is already established, has many members, and has made mainstream media.

Exactly. It has media exposure some could only dream of. Plus with this exposure you could use the traffic and promote other sites you own as well.

For something that isn't news it sure is making a nice discussion point about social networking websites.

Definitely not news worthy. There are plenty of people under 18 that have made more than $100,000 on the Internet.

Let's not forget, the site hasn't even sold yet. There are hardly any bids.

Yea well if those kids get on all the major news networks like this one did then they are news worthy as well.

If you don't think it's news worthy, fine don't reply to the thread. It's news to me, Foxnews, CNN, Glenn Beck, MSNBC and a few others in here.

Good grief.
