Well the release of Vista is just 1 step closer to being able to play Halo 2 for PC since it requires Vista.

And for me that's just taking a frown and turning it upside down

I would advise against Vista.

A friend of mine tried it and it's ressources consuming to a level never achieved yet, even for Microsoft. The photo browser (or whatever it's called) is so slow, it's frustrating.

And you're stuck with IE 7+, wich is probably the worst (false) Internet browser of the history of web browsers.

Stick with XP Pro. I know I will for a while.

I checked my computer and it can be upgraded. I started to upgrade today and decided to hold off a while. Not sure if I want to pay the $250 to upgrade as I am looking to upgrade to a new computer soon.

1 gig of ram is needed for running Vista, which is rather large for a requirement, although I can't remember the last time I had less than that other than on the last laptop I bought as a backup and never got around to upgrading yet.

Being stuck with IE7 doesn't bother me, because that is what I am using now if I use IE. I like it much better than IE6.

Vista is a let down. If you play games all the games you played on XP will run slower on Vista. On top of that I have 2GB of ram and it eats up the majority of it just at idle. It's pathetic.

^ I was thinking it might be fast on my computer since I have 2 gigs too, but I guess not.

OS X for me, and never going back. I built and used custom Windows computers for well over 10 years. I kick myself daily for all the time I wasted by not switching sooner. To each his own though, of course.

I'm looking forward to OS X Leopard coming soon... when it does, I'll be able to upgrade for probably around $100 (with a single full-version edition that gives all the features, not just some unless I pay $400, ah hem), and my computer will likely be faster than ever after that, instead of slower. At my job a year ago I had an old 1GHz G4 Powerbook... I upgraded it from Panther to Tiger, and despite all of the "Vista-like" special effects, it got faster

Unfortunately I'm stuck using Windows XP still some of the time... for myself, to test under-development websites in IE 5-7, and for my part time IT job, where they will probably be keeping XP for many years to come. They "can't" upgrade most of their hundreds of computers to Vista - even most of the "decent spec" computers they have aren't nearly good enough for Vista.

But they will have much better graphics with DX10, even if your card isn't DX10 compatible.

Today on BBC the Well-Known Click Hi-Tech programme did a report on Vista , you can find it here
www.bbc.co.uk/click

I guess everyone should wait until we know how it works before upgrading
