What are everyones thoughts about paying for link submission services? Do they actually work? Are they scams? Or would I be better off doing the manually by myself..

Also, what about yahoo? They have this thing you pay 299.00.. What exactly does it do, and does it work effectively?

Directory submissions bring in little traffic and the links are of little (not none though) value to the search engines, however it's still really cheap (I've seen as low as $7 for 100 directory submissions) so I think it's worth.

The $299 yahoo directory submission is just for commercial sites (your $299 could be better spent), they also have free submissions, just go to your category and select "Suggest a site."
