Does an alarm clock wake you up?

I've always waken up to my alarm clock (thanks to my phone) for the past couple months, since well, if I don't set it I'd end up sleeping all day (til 7 pm) and hate myself for sleeping so late.

So, does an alarm clock wake you up or do you wake up on your own?

Since I work at my own schedule, I haven't used an alarm clock in over a year and wake up when I wake up. At first it is very difficult not to oversleep, but then you get used to the fact that if you oversleep you are groggy the whole day, so you will start getting up the first time you wake up instead of going back to sleep for a couple more hours like you really want to right after you quit working a day job =).

Hit or miss for me. Sometimes it wakes me up, sometimes I sleep through it. If you have a Mac, you can use it as a very effective alarm and it can be controlled with the remote... very nice...

Solution!

I just did this recently. Me and another self-employed guy were discussing how we sleep in to easily (I consider 8-9am sleeping in) so we started a challenge:

Wake up every day at 5:30am.

Any time you miss you add the time lost to you "debt" and you have to make up for it by getting up earlier.

Anyways, on Sundays the challenge is off... thing is, after a couple weeks, you realize that you body will only "sleep in" until 6:30-7:00am.

Cool thing is... now I don't need an alarm at all.

I often change the music of my alarm clock, cause once I get use to the one song, I will turn it off and go to sleep again.
