You guys will probably think that this is really obvious but I have been thinking and I cant come up with a concrete answer.
Why do companies spend so much time and money designing web browsers? I read a story that Apple is in some trouble for trying to "suggest" that people remove IE and download Safari when they try and do something with itunes (i didnt read the whole story but that doesnt matter).
I reference this because I dont understand why Apple (or MS) would go through so much effort. Is it just publicity and marketing to get THEIR browser to be popular? Obviously theres the point of including it with the OS but why not just all include FF or some other random browser? I use IE myself (/me waits to get yelled at) but I still think its pointless.
Can anyone give me a good reason or is it just marketing/dumb ego trip.
