This morning was the first day youth turkey weekend in my neck of the woods. My daughter got her first turkey, with her first shot at about 6:30 am and I had to share

Well done, sounds like a good start to the day, start her off on turkeys and then move onto penguins

Congrats! My wife and sister-in-law were also good shots at about the same age. So when boys came into the picture they weren't as worried about Daddy. Now I will say that down here a turkey shoot doesn't mean actually shooting the turkey...it's target shooting with a turkey as the prize.

Yeah, my baby girl & I like to show up the boys. We are both good shots and frequently out shoot all the men Dad told her - "now what if I don't get a turkey...I'll be out gunned by my youngest!!"

Congratulation to your daughter, a really good way to start the day.

Bring back a memory....
My little sister and I where doing contest shooting.
We used lend weapons to do so, and took them back at home after the shooting.

One day, a guy she started dating 2 weeks sooner droped by the place, while we where cleaning our guns.
The look on his eyes, when he saw the both of us with guns dismantled appart.
I will always smile at that memory

This is the gun we had received:

I received one again when I was in the army, but it's collecting dust on my wardrobe now...

Thanks everyone - we are proud of her

Nope - not a fluke. She received her first shot gun for her 9th birthday and practices regularly. She & I enjoy being outdoors and outshooting the guys . It's also great family time sitting in the blind or the tree stand. It's amazing what your kids will tell you at 6 am when everything is quiet, the sun is just coming up and the forest is starting to wake up.

She's already got her sights on a big tom that was too far away on Saturday

That's a great news. Hunting is a nice pass time. But it is prohibited in many of the countries to protect the wild species.

Now I'm getting jealous. A friend of mine in Lousiana has a blind, well stocked with comfortable seating, refreshments etc.. It seems like home entertainment with a built in shooting gallery that puts food in your fridge. Whats not to like.

Well, ya know some people are against hunting and the consumption of animals.

Personally, I love being outside and there is nothing better than a meal that didn't come from the grocery store .

I have a little propane heater for the treestand/blind too. I'm pretty spoiled - I don't go hunting under 40 degrees without my little heater & I don't go when it's under 25 degrees period
