I take it digital picture frames are usually around 7 to
12 inches, and go for a price of around $200? Huh?
No thanks. I'll take a pass on them if they're that
small at a price like that.

A very quick (but not so thorough) check shows
that you can get a 20 inch LCD monitor for around
$155, maybe less. Why not just buy the
bigger LCD monitor, mount it to your wall and
run a slide show of your pictures through
monitor #1 as you surf the Internet with
monitor #2?

I was real excited when I saw the digital
picture frame for the first time. And then
I found out you could run not 1 but 3
monitors off of the same computer.
It was then thatmy excitement died
and died fast.

I have a question for everyone: What's
the point of having an expensive, little
digital picture frame when you can show
your pictures to friends and family using
the larger LCD computer monitor? When
it comes to digital picture frames I'm
curious as to what the hype is all about.
I don't get it, do you?

I'll admit they're a new interesting way to showoff your pictures around the house but I don't see them being a "must get" yet. I can see some great ways though of showing off pictures in next few years coming off this, dunno though...

actually it doesn't mean that anything available in the market is for you to buy there will always be options for you... and this product only shows innovation and how far our technology is already in the present...

i have to disagree they did go through a must have hype and are now in decline.

Hence why when they first came out there were arround £250 ($500)

I can see your point, but you dont have to have the computer on and it is 100% portable. the idea is it replaces you photos/pics on the wall and means you get a little variety.

eventually you will be able to get them for under £50

I think they are sort of like mp3 players. The mp3 players were incredibly expensive to carry around what you could already burn on a disk and carry with you to your car cd player or friends' computer. It's just an alternative to one photo being in a frame when you could have 12. Lately you can get mp3 players as cheap as $40 or less. I figure eventually the frames will lower in price. When they hit the dollar store I'll be replacing all my paintings on my walls.

It's also a nice gift for some one who is computer illiterate. For example, my father barely knows how to send an email and lives 1100 miles away from us. I bought one for him for Christmas and loaded pics of the kids, my hubby & I on it. This way he got more than one picture of us and it's easy enough that he can set it the way he wants to. I only paid $40 for the frame and I think it held 20 pictures.

I've never understood except allowing for status symbols.
